may not be true though just what i was told. Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: Mop Head on October 05, 2007, 20:47:47 PM Now that would be a real surprise, but it does seem rather false. Especially as she runs one of the fastest updated sites on the web you think she'd pop something up on there?
Or maybe that iirc her contrack from this season runs till the next....(dont quote me but I'm pretty sure I remember reading that). Guys if your really gonna start pushing round rumors as big as that about people something to back em up would be nice! Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: Look Out on October 06, 2007, 17:41:07 PM but whos Mason riding for?? thats the news we are all waiting for ? he is keeping quiet at the moment whilst he is developing his CV . Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: Mop Head on October 07, 2007, 08:29:36 AM Lopes dropped by GT? Im guessing he demanded more and they said no. He's in a pretty safe position though. World Champions rarely struggle to find teams. :P Yeah he coulda asked for more and they said no, but this is what was posted on brianlopes.com by him. Many of you have asked "Is it true?", regarding the rumors flying around about GT and Brian parting ways. In short "yes", it is true! After seven years of a mutually successful partnership that produced: Four World Championship titles Three World Cup Overall titles One National Championship GT Bicycles has decided to take their legendary "race-inspired" brand in a "new direction". Which leads me to question what the "new direction" is, since Brian has been supplying them "wins" from the get-go. It is clear to me that the only "direction" to go is down, specially after this year's World Championship win. With that said, I don't wish for that to happen, since we have been fortunate enough to meet some great people through GT, but I do whole-heartedly question the thinking and strategy behind it this "new direction" set forth by corporate. Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: jake-snake on October 07, 2007, 08:40:40 AM Mop you are right but I never see many GTs going round

Greg will either run his own team with major support from Alpine Stars, although I doubt this. He'll go to someone out the blue like Q bikes, or maybe Commencal. Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: JIMBO on October 16, 2007, 10:28:21 AM Barel to La Pierre I reckon...
It'll be good to see him on a different bike, and cue the barrage of abuse...but a better one, it's well known that Kona's aren't the greatest race bikes. Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: Part time on October 17, 2007, 21:37:20 PM I would imagine most teams would be glad to give him a ride even if it were for one race witht the amount of coverage he generates.

For starters we seem to be going through another general downturn and women's racing has always struggled to get the same recognition as men's. Plus, if you're an Aussie, you have to relocate... and that means increased costs. Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: blabbermouth on October 30, 2007, 21:28:23 PM Riffle off Iron Horse..... Honda have left the scene, but surely Brendan and Minaar would still have their contracts with 23 Degrees and it would be down to them to find a new bike sponsor for the both I dont think it's going tits up, just more changes this year, and although some big teams have ceased, other teams have entered the arena - Lapierre-Subaru, Trek, Diamondback, etc. Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: jonmiles on November 02, 2007, 12:04:25 PM Minarr was a HRC rideer... From www.bikepark.ch (http://www.bikepark.ch) Due to the non presence of the disciplines Downhill and Four Cross at the Olympic Games, we have decided to focus only on the Cross Country, to assure the necessary structure to Balz Weber and Marielle Saner (who returns to Cross Country), that they can realize their dream to compete at the Olympic Games in Peking. Next year, the team will consist Marielle Saner, Balz Weber and another third rider, which has to be confirmed. We will ride on bikes of the company BMC, which is based in Grenchen, and the team is baptised to BikePark.ch BMC. We are looking very forward and also to work with the company BMC, which is representing a very professional and serious image in the world of cycling. Furthermore, we want to thank a lot to the lift companies of Télé Champéry Crosets Portes du Soleil SA and Télé Morgins (responsible of the company BikePark.ch) for the great support Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: scott_c on November 07, 2007, 18:30:06 PM Word on Brendan racing motocross has been rubbished by Martin Whitely.

Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: Mono @Wideopenmag.co.uk on November 08, 2007, 19:23:15 PM From Wideopenmag.co.uk:
Quote After a season plagued by constant shoulder dislocations and complicated further by a broken scapula at the World Championships in Scotland, Greg Minnaar went under the knife today to rectify his problematic left shoulder. Dr Mark Ferguson from the South African Sports Clinic declared after the operation that he is very confident with the results. What was supposed to be a routine 1h 30min operation to repair cartilage damage and carry out the re-attachment of tendons in the front of the shoulder, turned out to be an operation of more than two and half hours. The damage caused by Minnaar's crash at Fort William had rendered the rear cartilage of the shoulder so badly damaged that it too had to be repaired and a tendon was re-attached using four screws. Following the operation a rather subdued Greg commented: "Although right now there is a lot of pain and discomfort, my main focus is to get home and start a full and speedy recovery." The recovery period is estimated to be between 8 to 10 weeks. The day before his surgery Greg took part in a televised celebrity car race, and blew away the opposition. The WesBank Celebrity Blacklist Car race series, launched this year, allows national celebrities the chance to feel what it's like to get strapped into a full spec 2.0 litre VW Polo race car and push their driving abilities to the limit and race against the clock. 30 celebrities were all put through the same format and only the top four were chosen for the final show down that was televised yesterday in cool windy conditions near Johannesburg. On the 12th of August this year, at his qualifying session, Greg almost broke the lap record that had been unbeatable and set by Radio DJ and South Africa's Formula 1 expert commentator, Sasha Martinengo. Sasha set a scorcher of a lap at 1.29.34 and Minnaar set a time of 1.29.40, leaving both almost two seconds clear of any of their rivals. Greg commented: "Losing by six 100th's of a second in the car, is no different to losing in a downhill race where the times are just as close and the slightest error can cost you a win." Yesterday saw the final showdown at Wesbank Raceway of the four top celebrities and Greg was crowned the first ever champion with a scorcher of a lap, nearly 3 seconds quicker than 2nd place. Greg said: "It was an awesome experience to drive a race car like that, and with a single lap to count, it made it just as nerve wracking as racing a downhill event". Not team news but interesting all the same. Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: Joe on November 08, 2007, 19:38:31 PM You'd be an idiot to believe thos rumours anyway! Nothing new there

Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: kdub on November 10, 2007, 21:58:59 PM brendan has just signed with a MX2 moto team for next year, look out on moto magazine's website, there should be a "proper" press realse on there this week! i hope he still does a few mountain bike races, would be a shame for him to leave the mountain bike scene completely :-[ Bren took delivery of his 2008 practice bike today & spent the day riding it at my backyard practice facility setting it up etc. His race bike is not coming until just before the 08 season starts, It doesnt have pedals but..... a 250f motor! It is a high profile team with a huuuuge budget! Pretty pimped out brand new van/motorhome too!! The company is connected to mtb team too so he may do the odd mtb race too. Onwards and upwards for Brendan ;) ;) ;) Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: Mono @Wideopenmag.co.uk on November 10, 2007, 22:29:25 PM This has to be the rumour of the century...

Trek want a big name rider and had been in talks with Sam Hill (mega bucks!!) but then big name riders became free so their focus and alot of other teams focus was switched to the riders with no teams... Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: DaveM on November 12, 2007, 12:26:23 PM i;d be very susprised to ever see sam leave iron horse, after how he is riding on the sunday right now!
Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: Mop Head on November 12, 2007, 13:06:17 PM I'd be surprised, sam signed for 3 years which finishes after the 2008 season, IIRC that was on pinkbike.
Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: MilesUK on November 12, 2007, 13:47:02 PM didn't sam sign another 3 year or 2 year deal earlier on in the season with Ironhorse?
Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: jake-snake on November 12, 2007, 13:57:58 PM I would love to see hill go to Trek
and then see who sells there Sunday Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: gang_starr30 on November 12, 2007, 14:19:59 PM Sam Hill is contracted to ride for Iron Horse untill the end of the 2008 season. however as he is entering his final year with the team, there could be a clause for him to leave, if IronHorse recieve compensation payment.
After all trek could have been offering him big money to ride for them in 2009.... then the big name riders become free and a new team strategy has to be formed. Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: samsung on November 12, 2007, 16:57:01 PM i;d be very susprised to ever see sam leave iron horse, after how he is riding on the sunday right now! Didnt everyone think that about Peaty and Orange... then he moved to Santa Cruz. Well at least i did lol. Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: Rich Bell on November 12, 2007, 17:22:05 PM I would love to see hill go to Trek and then see who sells there Sunday I don't think they need any rider to sell their Sunday, the Sunday sells it's self.......especially now it has been out for a few years! p.s. nice to be called a legend! go to www.bmxtalk.com/oldskool & you will see how LONG AGO it was that i was a somebody. ouch! :'( Your link didn't work for me but here is another if anyone was trying to see the Oldskool: www.bmxtalk.com/oldskool (http://www.bmxtalk.com/viewtopic.php?p=139103&highlight=#top) Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: jake-snake on November 12, 2007, 17:25:42 PM belive me Sam Hill sells the Sunday by the truck load
Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: Rich Bell on November 12, 2007, 17:32:49 PM I am not saying he doesn't, but I don't think that Sunday will struggle to sell should he ride for someone else.
It has a reputation for being an awsome bike regardless! Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: jake-snake on November 12, 2007, 17:44:48 PM do you think the the 224 sells as well now as it did when Petey rode for Orange?
Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: g.marling on November 12, 2007, 18:03:28 PM Most people see top riders flying on the latest bike and buy one... Im sure 2008 is gonna be Iron Horse Sundays and V10's aplenty
Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: Rich Bell on November 12, 2007, 18:06:24 PM You're missing my point Jake, I haven't said that a rider doesn't help with the sales of certain bikes. as Peaty will have done for Orange, but if the bike has gained good reputation Like IMO the Sunday then people will continue buy!
I can't see people sitting on there Sundays once Hill has moved on saying to other riders that there bike rides like s**t all of sudden. I am simply commenting on the Sunday as a bike it's self and how well it is rated. The 222/3/4 even with Peaty onboard had plenty of people slate it. Anyway this isn't the place for a rider/sales discussion :P Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: Simon A on November 12, 2007, 21:51:50 PM Just checked with a contact Sam is definately staying at Iron Horse till the end of his current contract.
Title: Re: 2008 Team news Post by: Simon A on November 12, 2007, 21:57:54 PM Now Greg is a different story Trek are looking to sign someone big and that is holding everything up. I wonder if they have a new bike cuase the session 10 is w*nk (thats a technical race term) as a race bike.
