We are please to anounce we will be running a full downhill series in 2008 at the amazing venue that is Cearsws.

The Cearsws Cup will be a 3 round series in 2008

Dates
Rd1 March 16th
Rd2 May 4th
Rd3 June 29th includes Midland Championship

The normal format of Uplift on Saturday and racing on Sunday  ;)

The tracks will be built and maintained by Bobalong from Brookes Cycles who has built most of the tracks in Cearsws.

Full info on sponsors to be announced shortly, the events will run under BC insurance with ranking points at each round.

What's the capacity of the races?  I really want to do them but I don't think I can afford to enter until I get paid ~7th March :(  Only 125 down for round 1 so far.

The maximum is 300 riders, so you should be ok still to enter on 7th March

No that's the old national course, close but no cigar!
we are using the Midlands course the next one over.

There have been a few changes to the course to make if flow better, the tight right corner by the tree after the rock garden has been taken out so more bottle necks when a rider stops there.

i'm afraid i now won't be entering due to collarbone-breaking at bringewood  :(

(and get well soon, I nailed myself on the tabletop back in November, had to have a bunch of stitches and suffer the doctor pulling gravel out from between my flesh and muscle - not a nice surface to crash on there! :))

i have a favorite tree in our local forest... ;)  think it has a 'jonny' magnet attached  ::) (my name...not the ....well you know ;D)

riding for w.homer cycles.  We should have a full showing at caersws.. 5 riders. 1 in youth, 2 juniors, 1 senior and me in the masters... looking forward to it.. ;D

at last years last dragon round, we lost the gazebo and tents etc because the weather was so bad.. ::) So hopefully this year will be kinder to us.

How long do you think you will be out of action for..?

Can anyone tell me roughly what the track is like and how would it compare is difficulty to the dragon tracks.  I did the race at gethin last season as my first race but heard caersws is pretty tech and steep.  Is this a good race to do for an inexperienced racer?

The tracks at Caersws range from easy to technical, the we are using is ok for everyone, although to get it pined is pretty hard.

For your first race you will be fine, we are doing 6 hours of practice on Saturday so plenty of time to learn the track and then on Sunday a nother 2 hours of pratice before your two race runs.

11 till 3:30 is shocking.  I think it's bad enough that Pearce only run 11 till 4.  And Fort Bill chairlift is only open 10:30 to 3:30 or something.  I'd much rather pay a few quid extra and have practice run from 9 till 5ish, or maybe even longer.  I wouldn't necessarily do any more runs, maybe a couple, but I could take a much more relaxed view of the day, rather than feeling I had to get straight back in the queue immediately and never stop to look at any lines etc!

its only 11-3 if you take off the half hour for lunch.. :'(

At Caersws it possibly does, it's a very direct uplift route.  We did our own private uplifts a few weeks ago, and between 11 and 4 (ish) we drove up 15 times.  Obviously without the faff of loading 30people etc on (only 3 of us), but gives you an idea.

Well it's not a very exciting series prize is it - £10 of something that you can do yourself with a bit of innertube!

When a series prize is announced you expect it to be a pair of forks or a frame or a biking holiday or something.  But then I guess RRP are pretty limited in what they can offer since AFAIK that's the only product they have ;)

And yep, I'm sure there's plenty of series which have NO prize at all - I've no problem with that, we all know there's not much cash in this sport.

The fact that a very small rider run company wants to support racing by giving a way custom printed product should be applauded.

Also at each round of the Series you can win an Astrix Hardtail frame.

We have spent hundreds of pounds at each round giving the top 3 in each category a glass etched trophy.

We decided to give anyone who pre-entered all 3 rounds get a FREE £45 race shirt.

So no not big on series prizes but we spread what we got across the series so more people can benefit.

I know Chris, that's what I was getting at.  Free shirts for entering, free frame at each round, seems odd to have a £10 product as the prize for the series, you have to admit :)

Yes you can still bring your caravan and you still camp.

We have a back up plan that if the bottom field is to wet.
We will park all Caravans, motorhomes, large vans etc a long the fire road to the quarry.

For camping we will use the top field next to the gate, there is a stone road down the middle of it and its down hill so very easy to get out. ;D

Caersws does dry quite quickly and the track is quite hard so swamps might be a bit to harsh  ::)

I am sure Si and his descent world van will have just the perfect tyres for you  :D

Yeah, Caersws is good in that the track faces the sun and as such dries relatively quickly.

As opposed to somewhere like Gethin where if it's rained within the last month you know it's going to be miserable :)

im playing it safe with swampys the amount of rain were having is making me think that even caersws is goin to be wet and that the weather man says it going to rain more so it wil lbe very wet!

I don't think it's going to stop rainin all weekend ! It's not gonna dry out
The last wet uplift I did was rideable on high rollers strange really, until the last couple of hours when it went super slippy, if it really rains hard the top secton end up turning into a stream (which is fun) ;)

There are little caersws cup arrrows stuck sign posts all the way from Newtown.

I'm using high rollers first just because they are on now and i'm lazy ;D but i think the muds could be going on after i've hit a tree or two

Both wheelsets are in the car. I bet i'll be chaing the muds off the XM321s and onto the EX721s before sunday though.

Yeah I have a second wheelset on it's way to me at the moment, but not yet :(

I will Certainly not be entering the next two rounds,  Firstly no-one can predict the weather(i understand this). BUT if you are going to allow People to camp on the fields  then atleast have a way of getting them on/off the field. WHY SHOULD WE pay good money to go to an event to then not even be helped out of the field, when Mr Roberts was questioned by my dad about Is there going to be any help Off the field, There was a smug Reply of. 'wait till the end, There should be enough man power' Also he didnt want to use a tractor, to churn the Field up. Well if thats the case, make it so people have to find a campsite...

Anyway the course was good, the racing was good.

haha the field was doomed as soon as people started arriving and by about 1pm saturday, people had to be pushed in and out. A tractor would have been amazing and i doubt it would have made it worse.

Was my first time riding that track and loved it, would like to ride it again when dry(er) than saturday. Loved the uplift aswell, so quick and simple, good stuff!

I thought it was pretty good myself. When i asked someone on the Saturday about camping he clearly said to me not to camp on the field incase it rains. I stayed in the field, got wet and ruined all my kit. My own fault. I think it is also fair to wait till the race is over to start moving people out of the field. I had to get mine and my friends vans out on our own.

Only complaint was not the lack of toilets, but the fact some dirty b*stard couldnt get his "waste" down the toilet.. just left it on the lid... Cheers you dirty TW*T!

Went really well I thought. No ques for toilets, the ques for the uplift were constantly moving. No waiting at the top for my run. Everything went really well apart from my 2 race runs!

Ok, my First post was Probably ott, just came home extremely pi**ed off that even with 5 of us we couldnt Push the car out of the event,

i just found it a bit of a joke that there was no actual help to get off the field.

I've been to Moto-x races before with 3/4 tractors waiting to help people off.

I'm Not faulting the racing/riding. All im saying is that i shouldnt need to risk injuring myself or others for the sake of getting there/Going home.

When I was leaving, Ian (i think) went on in an old tractor to pull people off.

The nice woman down the road let me and my mate use her hose to wash our bikes all day  ;D

there was a hose to wash your bike with in the field anyway, didnt need to go down the road

I was parked on the road anyway. She offered us showers too  ::)

i had a really good weekend.
awsom track, no waiting for uplifts or race runs.
every thing was really well organised.
and the farmer ian helped us out of the feild with his tractor after an hour of pushing and he seemed quite friendly.

definatly going to enter the next two rounds.

absolutly mint weekend :) mint track was all good :) i really liked it in the mud was great fun, my first ever race, first ever time at caersws and im quite chuffed with my result :)

i agree that tractors should of been available. Oh and the lack of loo's was a bit poor.

I had a great time despite snapping my lever and folding my rotor on my 2nd practice run!  I'm very glad I no longer own a tent, I was VERY pleased to be able to park on the fireroad for the whole weekend and set my gazebo up over the back of my van.  I expect I would have been a bit more miserable if I had a tent in the field in 6" of mud & water!

Would like to see the results to see how poorly I did, best I could manage was a 2:58, I blow in the wet.

Oh and on the toilet front I've got avoiding portaloos at races down to a fine art - stop at Tescos on your way in the morning and relieve yourself there, and then use a pub for food and a second unloading in the evening :)

Helps that I'm a fella and I can pee anywhere I suppose, I REALLY don't envy the girl racers, or the mums/sisters/GFs etc, or those who dragged the aforementioned along to the event and then felt pretty bad about it!  Are you saying there were no toilets in the field, surely the 3/4 by the uplift weren't the only ones??

nah there 4 in the Pit area and 4 more in the bottom field.

we stayed in the pit area and couldn't find any toilets there..  :-\

top weekend, best organised race i,ve entered, I stopped racing about 2 years ago because of all the hanging about waiting for your run (because it was late) no probs this weekend,uplift on sat was mint too, just a shame the big man upstairs couldn't help out with the weather. ah well at least I know what it's like to ride through thick custard (last 20m before he finish) ;D

yep, the finish.. if you were camped there it was either up to the uplift part or over to the ones by the field entrance.. ::)

Excellent race in adverse conditions guys.

Also, if anyone knows the guy who was at Marshall point 4 today, give him my thanks. He found my phone on the way up the course this morning (dropped into the mud last night whilst running back to the camping). I'm properly grateful, I thought it'd have been gone for good!


With regards to getting off the field,

Yes, there was a little slowness in folks realizing that a tractor really was going to be needed for everyone in the paddock and the bigger/stucker vans on the main field there really wasn't a "problem" as such if you were relaxed about it and understood that it was gonna take a while. [edit: also, thinking about it, there's no way they could have started moving anyone at all until everyone had cleared off.]

I had my towing eye hooked up this morning ready to go for the evening (seemed sensible given the forecast!)


I'm properly ticked off with myself times wise. I got the same time both runs (to the second!) and the second run, the bottom field took twice as long. Why couldn't my quickest run have had the top section off my second and the bottom off my first! Hehe.

hahaha i think my mates dad found your missing bit of lever, i lost a bar end and a lock off a ruffian somewhere on the track lol

awsome track and tbh i'm glad they removed that one small section that was on the NPS track as it was solid

tracks sshagged now though!!

thought the track was s**t, sorry but the old nps was much better and easier.

i had a good first run till i cough up with someone who wouldn't pull over so i had to go slow and crashed twice because of it, then it pi**ed it down for second run so i didn't have a chance, still over took 2 people (they pulled over) but was still 10 seconds slower as it was wet.

so, very disappointed with organisation, i should have had a re-run as i was talking to 20+ other riders who said the same and got a crap result because of it. This also happened to another person in my category but he managed to get past them on the fire road.

Have to admit track was OK but not as fun as the others on the hill. Rain made it a bit of a laugh though.

Haha, you miserable f**ker!  I thought the track was great, really fun and a bit challenging to stick the high-lines on the offcamber sections.

Ay only at the top, until i realised the lower line was just as fast Lol

I dunno, when I rode the lower lines whoever I was following at the time would always pull out a couple of bike lengths on me.  The high lines after the tight right hander after the fireroad were also worth doing IMHO.  I've always sucked at off-camber stuff too, so I was really pleased just to be doing them, and it gave me a bit of a confidence boost I guess, which can be worth a lot as well!

yeh that tight right hander was a bitch! but worth taking the high lines after.
Anyone heard news on the dude in youth who broke his leg?

Was that the guy who nailed himself on the step-down into the field during Saturday's practice, or the reason that the first race runs were red-flagged for half an hour or so?  Or the guy who was on the switchbacks being tended to for ages before you came out along the fireroad on Saturday?

And assuming he's not all three of them, how are all of those people? :)

I think the guy at the switchbacks was Henry.  He bought a Solid off us ages ago, so when he was looking for a lift to get to the race I picked him up. It was his first race back, after a big car crash that left him in a wheel chair with two broken legs towards the back end of last season.

couple of runs in, and clipped his foot one on of the turns, and now has added a trip in a helicopter to his list of experiences.  He has a spiral fracture of his tibia.  Hopefully no surgery needed, but he's a medical student, so its all good experience for him :)

Ouch, I remember reading about spiral fractures when my mate was getting into super-moto a few years ago, not nice!  Keep your feet up kids! :)

Spoke to someone who knows him and turns out it was an over exaggerated dead leg... nothing wrong with him.

could you help me plz,

im 13yrs old and raced a few of the dragons last year, but now that they're gone (gutted about it) i'm not sure were to go to next.

i live in the south wales valleys so could any 1 point me in the right direction to start racing plz

Caersws Cup will be 4 Rounds next year all in an easy reach venue in Mid Wales.

Uplift days will be planned before each race next year to give you even more fun on your bike.
