hey update on my ankle

had more x-rays today and then a CT scan so they could check how broken it was....

story goes, i have a broken talus bone, well a good crack and some bits floating about... according to the doc it's pretty serious and the tissue damage is pretty bad....

I've got like a line where my knee armor stops and where the bruising starts goes all the way down the outside of my leg then spreads all over my foot, can't really see in pic that well but it's pretty rank.

he said the only way i could have done this is to dislocate my ankle then land on that bone while it was dislocated. the bone is inside the ankle, so quite well protected..... (that's why they couldn't see it before in x-rays)

I've got a new cast (well its a back plate they can't put a full cast on till the swelling has gone down. so I'm off to the hospital to get  another cast next Tuesday...

he said 6 weeks before i can walk and prob about that again before i can ride properly again... looks like im not racing in January....

oh the scanky looking things are fracture blisters one of them popped so there's just the to big ones now!!!

It kinda looks like my ankle is reali small compared to the foot in fact my f**ked ankle and lower leg is s**t loads bigger than my other leg/ankle, just shows how big my foot is now!!!!

i did it at rogate on the ditch gap, blew the corn out before it and still went for it came up a little short and brought the front down far to early sent me over the right side of the bars....

rubber side down! lets not forget the snapped steer tube!!!!!!

I just ride there. Go left out of the station, then right at the mini roundabout past the mini Tesco's. Carry on up the hill past the school until you get to a cross roads with a pub, called the Jolly something. Cross over the road and go left passed the pub then you take the 2nd left and follow the road and Rogate is on the right hand side.

Not yet, but it will be. Its those ultra reliable Santa Cruz bearings for you, in fact pretty much every bearing on the bike has gone, headset, hub and pivots. Excellent.  ;D

is it o.k. to ride at rogate, haven`t been there since the pedalhounds days and wasn`t sure if it had been closed down recently.

You can ride there once for free then you need to join the club.

Darren used to ride a red/white stab, and had the little maroon minivan.  He had a new bike down there on saturday, and came off big time on the big double, he was complaining about his ribs, shoulder blade and/or collar bone.   The ambulance turned up just before I left, so I'm not sure what what they had to say. But he certainly didn't drive home...

On a lighter note, when are you down rogate next sam?

ah... sounds like everyone is having a fatass time at rogate, can't wait till I'm back on the bike again...

Rogate is back woo, but it wont be about for long if people still insist of leaving rubbish all over the place, there was a large group based in the middle of the hill on saturday and the rubbish left after was discrasful, and its not just there, there is rubbish absoloutly everywhere, bottles cans, crisps packets sandwich bags you name it it was probally on the floor. I was there today and in some parts theres more litter than dirt.

People if you bring it take it away with you, PLEASE!!

I had to speak to a big group today and even offered to take thieir rubbish with me in my car (they didnt look old enough to drive) it was f***in awful.  I left before they did so cant guarentee anything was done about it.

I dont think I saw any stickers on their bikes either - makes life simple doesnt it?!

Next option is photographs and name and shame them if need be.......

i am ashamed to say i am an offender, i have noticed the rpoblem escalating but never get round to doing a clear up, but i promise that next time im up (porbs next week sometime) i will take a bin liner and pick up all the rubbish in that area on behalf of all of us riders that hang around that central area. apologies for letting it happen.

edit: there is a bin there but it is never emptied, and today we did fill a carrier bag up with our rubbish.

Yeah, i will admit to sitting in the same area as the litterers, personally i have never intentionally dropped litter there and i have been a member since the club started. At the end of the day there was a bit of a clear up, and it does now look slightly better although next Sunday i was planning on taking a bin bag up and get as much up as possible. Hopefully that will help. Dave and GiantJust what bikes were you riding today??

You all bring the rubbish, usually with food/drink wrapped in it, making it heavier. Why don't you just be responsible for your own rubbish and take it home with you!! Its not rocket science, just use your heads.

The bin seems kind of a bad idea (in a way, nice idea, just not practical) because obviously its not on a refuse route  :P, and i for one am not going to fill my car with a wet bin of rubbish, although i have filled the odd black bag and taken it away to dispose of.

Thanks to those that admitted offending !  JUst everyone do as agreed which is to take rubbish with us.  Think bins should be removed to make it simpler as they are overflowing and quite rightly the membership coordinator mentions in his letter that he doesnt like emptying em (can imagine ;-) ).

There are road signs up there that have appeared from no one which also makes us look like thieves basically.  I am not perfect I know by any means and hate preaching but this was a flippin dumb idea too. ;-)

I'm thinking Kamaloops style shore road gap? :D Man that would be nuts. Some nice shore drops would be pretty cool though.

northshore is great, i mean if it built right it definately enhances a track, northshore landings are so cool and feel so good !

As long as there are a few trails with north shore and a few without, and as long as the place doesn't become completely over-run by the stuff, I reckon its a good idea.

personally id like to see rogate remain a downhill er... hill never been a fan of man made wood on DH tracks, not saying ii dislike shore i just much prefer  DH tracks as apposed to free ride trails...

think it would be foolish to build northshore at rogate. i wouldn't give it long before its shut down if there are shitty wooden stunts built on the hill. all of the tape and rubbish are enough of a problem already!

hi guys, went up to rogate today and cleared up all the rubbish in and around the middle area but couldnt take the bags of rubbish with me. as i have done the hard bit could someone that drives take the bags of rubbish home and chuck em in a dumpster or summin, would be much appreciated and would only be a once off as everyone will now take their crap home,

Was driving past today and just stopped of for 10 mins to look around, There was one guy riding up there on his own at about 5.40 wearing no helmet. Riding a Kona stinky i think, cant remember much but if you are the guy or know him tell him to put a lid on.

It seems madness to me that for one, you would ride with no lid and two, on your own with no lid.  ::)

speaking of guys with no lids, few days back there were a couple guys, one on a v10 cant remember the other, but they were also riding with no helmets, seems dumb to me! theres just no tellin some ppl

I have never dropped litter up there and would never dream of intentionally dropping litter there. If you have been up recently you will have probably noticed that there is now alot less litter up there and that the people who were dropping lots have now cleared it up and are now taking it home.

They seem to have changed their ways...

And by the way riding with no helmet is not on.

Good. There was no change 2 weeks ago when i was last there. Lets hope they keep it clean.

Rogate is usually pretty good in any weather....the bottom half gets grippier, and the top half gets more interesting. :)

The top half was riding well in the rain last Saturday.

Went upto Rogate today and had a great days riding, only grumble thou is the amount of litter that has been left.  I picked up 2 bags full before I started riding, and there was still lots of litter lying around.

People need to take there crap home with them, as this sort of problem can lead to complaints that in worse case situations end up with venues being closed.

The litter there is appalling.  Good on you picking some up!

is this litter in the area where the kids all sit? thats where it normally is,

Yep thats the place buddy, but there was loads of litter all over the hill, including traffic cones and road work signs ::)

sorry if this has been talked about all ready, was chatting to some chaps there yesterday, and they said paul has been sent a letter saying its getting felled in about a month, and we will have to go the other side of the road.

any one got more info? is this just anther scare tactic from forestry, as i;ve been riding there 7/8 years now and this seems to get mentioned every year!

from what i have heard, it is getting 100% felled and will take a few months to do, so yes, and we get a bit of land over the road or something, and we can keep that if we like it or go back to the original spot (with no trees!)

i think the other side will be good, theres the old peddlehounds track there, its still kinda ridable as had a go a month or so back, it has a very tech section which i liked!

shame its going to get flattened, had such a laugh there on saturday playing on the run next to where we park, trying to link those corners up!

o well all good things come to an end, just have to build some cool stuff the other side

um i think the old peddle hounds run is about as long as from the very top of the existing hill, accross the fire road, and to the bottom, but all depends how you build it, would't be hard to put in a good long ish run, used to have some awsome ideas for lines over there, also car parking is better, as there is a proper car park at the top of the hill, cut through a bush and you in the perfect place!

Where exactly is the new bit of forest? i'm reasonably new to rogate but would be more than willing to help dig new lines if needed. If someone tells me where the "new bit" is i might pop and have a look at lines etc on friday. that is if we are allowed on the "new bit" at the moment? if not i'll just enjoy the time left on the old runs!

i think before any one starts digging over the other side, i meeting needs to be arranged, in the car part over that side (theres a proper car park there) as you can cut through to the top of the hill, this would be the best place to start all the runs, there a few we used to ride about 5/6 years ago still there (kinda) and a plan be sorted, to stop track crossing, decided on lines, rather than the free for all thats happened so far!

needs to be organised properly with a team of guys who know what there up too, rather than giving a spade to every one and letting people dig wherever.. it will end up the same as rogate.. lines everywhere and people snaking each other.

Out  of interest can we use both sides of the hill after the felling us done :)? This would be wicked as we could expand rogate and add more lines. Though the new runs like said above need to be organized and not cris cros everywhere.

i;ve heard once the felling is done we get a choice, stay on the other side or go back,

i think we need to have dig days, only dig on scertain days, other than maintainance, that way things will be laied out properly, was fine digging when you wonted a few years ago, but the ammount of people there now it just becomes a mass or random rubbish,

and i also think a zero tollerance to littering, if you spot people dropping litter, or the usual little kids that hang about every weekend littering then tell them to sort it, its not fair to the rest of us!

trashed it on purpose? A few signs saying "Rogate Club" should help sort it out a bit....to show the walkers that its a legal place.

yeah saw them tracking a run once, they said 'what if a little kid rides down and hurts them self' we'll see, i have reservations about the whole area forestry dont wont us there.

the other side will ake some better runs i think, just corssing the fire road will be a big problem, you get alot of walkers, horses, dog walkers and motor bike trials blokes over that side.

the motor bike trials people will ride over what ever we build for sure, they also hold a motor bike trials copm there every year, how is that going to affect the new tracks?

Argh i hate it when people say that, if a kid is dumb enough to ride down a DH track before looking at it, he deserves to get hurt!

I think just some nice techy tracks would be good. A few techy drop offs, tight, twisty, off camber tracks, perfect. Wouldn't get ruined by trials riders either.

all depends where we build compaird to where they go, theres alot of techy drops they we would go down, they will go up them, its just another thing to think about.

Last time I went to that side they had a few very nice techy tracks that could be resurrected. Its a lot steeper then the other side so we should be able to get some proper techy steep runs which should be fun. Building up the jumps again will be a pain, it took ages to build on the side we use now. Maybe we could ask for our bathtub back.

There's a nice natural jump further up, just next to a tree. Not in a track, just nice to session.

Can't wait to go and sort it out, won't be around this summer, so i expect to come back to amazing techy tracks! ;)

so whens the "cut" off date for rogate? anybody know for sure?

Went up there today, first time in a long time.
The litter is stupid, the kids should get slapped.
All the new trails up the top are sweeeet and that small berm line ont he side near the road is real fun to.
But it also seems alot of people who dont know how to build have been up building s**t. Is there no way of regulating the building ?
But as always a good day up there

i know thre rubbish is a problem but i just had a thought, if the people who are leaving the rubbish dont care about the enviroment and the place etc then would they give a s*** if someone came up to them and told them they wernt allowed to ride ther? the answer=no so i think there is going to be a reoccuring problem...

  I had a look around your trails last night looks great I am really keen to ride up there I have mostly been xc and riding where ever I can, sop really keen to try DH, I currently have a scott nitrous 30 05 model which i brought looking to be able to get a bit more aggressive. Was basically hoping for a few tips and when people are there to hopefully show me round the site I normally will be looking to ride on either wednesdays my day off or sundays and possible evenings. I know you also need to pay for membership so also who do I need to talk about that.

a mate is at rogate as we speek and has just phoned me, he says they have started felling, nothing has been knocked down, but tress down by the doubles and up along the road by the switch backs have been felled.

It sure is rideable still. But I think in the week the forrestry are up doing little bits, just make sure you keep away from the tree eating machines!

Is Roagte still ridable, or has the tree felling started??  Tempted to head down this weekend, if its still there.

it was still there a couple days ago and doesnt look like anything at all has been done, although there has been some felling just along from the trails on the same hill, but knowing the FC it will take them years to reach it :D

couple of tracks have been built the other side whcih are good, but other than that its same as allways, no change ride as much as you like

COOMBE HILL IS NOW NOT RIDEABLE! logs and branches everywhere, shoulda taken a pic for u all but forgot. there was one remaining track that had been cleared...but jst to warn you its happened!..we best get busy building on the new side eh!

Back in the day a few of us walked up the road towards the house and on the left is an open way with the old old old rogate, after clearing some leaves, it was so techy, with its VERY steep lines.

They havnt felled every tree. Tbh you can barely tell they have felled trees dosnt look that much different at all. But riding the main part is out of the question for now. They dont seem to of actually destroyed man jumps ect tho

If every one starts going up hindhead it will get f**ked.  Its not hard wearing and we are even less meant to be there.  So i cant see that staying around long.  Last time rogate was shut it got busy and then we got problems.

So i think we need to try and keep rogate going.   somehow

Yeah, we were but theyre due to fell it.  And by the sounds of it have started. 

Not everyone.  If hindhead got the same numbers i can guarantee it will shut down.  Its sensitive up there with other users, environment, national trust, FC etc.

Following on from my last post maybe we need to contact the FC about it, perhaps form a club and so on.

Only thing is, i think if we talk to them i reckon we'll get a no and we'll be shut down as they'll have to admit they know about it and cant take a blind eye.  Sometimes best to keep quiet.
