Do we need to wear a fullface for the races? Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: Chasealex on April 07, 2008, 12:43:09 PM The rulebook says that you just need a helmet and reccomends (but does not require) that it's a full face lid.
Seriously though, having scraped my unprotected face down the back side of the triple, I now realise that riding a 4X course without a full face lid is tantamount to stupidity. Add racing to that mix and it's a no brainer. Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: Sawyer on April 08, 2008, 17:03:56 PM I think you may be right.
I was riding the ocurse with just one other person the other day in a pisspot, and thought I'd probably need one. Luckily my full face still fits! Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: platt55 on April 08, 2008, 17:37:54 PM I was hoping to go to round 1 but cant get a lift there! So will try and get a lift for the Bridgnorth one. Will be first time racing if i do, and will be in Novice catergory, 12-17. Anyone else going to Bridgnorth?
Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: Chris Roberts - nakedracing.com on April 09, 2008, 13:10:34 PM Chicksands is always a very popular race but we have been told that there is now limited parking at Chicksands for Round 1 so we have to limit the entry.
So get your entry in once its full that's it. Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: SJ. on April 09, 2008, 13:16:40 PM Give it a do guys. plus this year we have a lorry load of prizes to give away. Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: scrubydoo on April 09, 2008, 17:47:01 PM Regards lack of camping...

Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: McMuffin on April 15, 2008, 20:40:32 PM got my place
i am sh*tting myself just thinking about it as i hate riding with people in front or behind me as i always think im gonna crash and then there will be a pile up!! at chicksands isnt there a big advantage depending on what lane you pick ? Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: HATCH on April 16, 2008, 08:58:46 AM at chicksands isnt there a big advantage depending on what lane you pick ? No just get out of the gate first ;) Hatch Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: doseage on April 16, 2008, 09:53:01 AM screwin, managed to blast my bottom bracket last night off some crappy doubles near where i live... nto sure if i can afford to get it fixed in time for the 4x :( :( :( >:( >:(
Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: scrubydoo on April 16, 2008, 11:49:32 AM Hatch...
what's the left hand side like off the start... if you have to take the 2 drops? Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: McMuffin on April 16, 2008, 11:59:51 AM Quote what's the left hand side like off the start... if you have to take the 2 drops? this is what i meant as i hate taking the 2 drops oh and any advice for taking the triple ? as i aint good enough to jump it all so i was thinking of trying to take it as a double and manual the rest? What do you do ? cheers from someone who is literally cacking it Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: scrubydoo on April 16, 2008, 12:16:08 PM i've been doubling it- because i'm soft!!
think it's time i hit the triple though.... it's the only way!! double it and you lose loads of speed. keeny had a sneaky move that's quick and maintains momentum if you can't triple it! ask him nicely and he might let you in on his secret!!! Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: McMuffin on April 16, 2008, 12:23:22 PM will pm him later
how many runs do you get? as if its like bmx where you get 3 motos then i might try the triple on the last run Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: The Unique One on April 16, 2008, 13:31:45 PM I need to but as I have no way of getting there I wont be, still faster than you Novice boy :P man has a bike dont you ::) lol yeah nerves are there for me too but i know i cant do the triple at all so that will be my big loosing point really and im novice 17+ ;D cheers paul Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: doseage on April 16, 2008, 13:38:42 PM u need shedloads of speed for the triple, I'm hoping the race conditions will give me the extra speed!!
Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: McMuffin on April 16, 2008, 14:15:14 PM yeah speed will definately be the key but as i havent jumped it before confidence may not be on my side
also have no idea what the new section is like!! i might just sit back and hope that the 3 infront of me all crash and i cruise on past... or not :-\ Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: doseage on April 16, 2008, 14:19:26 PM go up there on sat and practise, that's what i'm doing!! and yes, I'll be hoping for the same thing, especially as I'm complete cack at the left hand side!!
So what's the format of the day then? How do they know who goes against who in the moto's? Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: McMuffin on April 16, 2008, 14:32:26 PM Quote go up there on sat and practise, that's what i'm doing!! and yes, I'll be hoping for the same thing, especially as I'm complete cack at the left hand side!! same here if i can get up there then i will what bike you on ? also are there gates on sat ? Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: scrubydoo on April 16, 2008, 15:10:29 PM yeah gates are 2-5pm on sat. i'll be up there.
Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: Sawyer on April 16, 2008, 17:43:16 PM I say the right lane is quicker, I certainly can't do the stepup (3rd jump) as well in left lane.
I usually double then sprint off the triple, but in the race I think the adrenaline will get the better of me and I'll just go for the thing and die or something! Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: RoyalWithCheez on April 16, 2008, 18:14:40 PM I hope i don't end up on the left but i'm not overly fussed, more worried about getting wobbly legs and screwing up the gate.
Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: mike yard on April 16, 2008, 18:17:12 PM the triples fine! just pedal into and out of the berm!
Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: McMuffin on April 16, 2008, 18:20:13 PM haha you say it as if its easy (well it might be for you)
i just got my lift up there on saturday so im sorted for gate pracitces i need to get it sorted as i havent done one on an mtb before Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: nick. on April 16, 2008, 19:23:01 PM just reading on the nps4x site, that if you rest your front wheel on the start gate when your waiting for it to drop, you get a DQ. I thought theidea was to have all our wait against the thing so your 'like a compressed spring'??can someone explain that for me????
Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: Chris Roberts - nakedracing.com on April 16, 2008, 19:55:05 PM just reading on the nps4x site, that if you rest your front wheel on the start gate when your waiting for it to drop, you get a DQ. I thought theidea was to have all our wait against the thing so your 'like a compressed spring'??can someone explain that for me???? Dont know what you think you read but you do rest your wheel against the gate. The rules is 13.3.1.2 Any part of the front wheel that crosses the start line before the official signal to start will result in the maximum time penalty for that run. (i.e. 4th place). Which means you can not jump the gate. Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: nick. on April 16, 2008, 20:44:36 PM ah cheers, lol is it possible to jump the gate without doing some trialsy stuff?
Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: The Unique One on April 16, 2008, 23:28:45 PM I hope i don't end up on the left but i'm not overly fussed, more worried about getting wobbly legs and screwing up the gate. haha i know the feeling as im riding clipped in but i found a secret out on how to stay stable sit down and let go of the bars while clipped in its great... not sure ill ve good at it though will try see you all sunday just reading on the nps4x site, that if you rest your front wheel on the start gate when your waiting for it to drop, you get a DQ. I thought theidea was to have all our wait against the thing so your 'like a compressed spring'??can someone explain that for me???? in a race you can press against it as thats how you balance really ill show you on sunday nick adam showed me how to do it cheers paul Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: Chris Roberts - nakedracing.com on April 17, 2008, 08:09:35 AM I hope i don't end up on the left but i'm not overly fussed, more worried about getting wobbly legs and screwing up the gate. haha i know the feeling as im riding clipped in but i found a secret out on how to stay stable sit down and let go of the bars while clipped in its great... not sure ill ve good at it though will try see you all sunday just reading on the nps4x site, that if you rest your front wheel on the start gate when your waiting for it to drop, you get a DQ. looking at the video it looks a bit dodgey for 4 people as it looks really thin and more like a section in the dual ? also whats the step up like ? Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: scrubydoo on April 17, 2008, 16:11:22 PM yeah i've done it....
mixed views on the 1st turn- inside/outside etc. stepup/stepdown can be completely cleared fairly easily. last turn is uphill and will be interesting depending on where they put the finish line! Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: McMuffin on April 17, 2008, 16:19:35 PM awesome though i broke my arm because of a step up
didnt realise theres a step down , do you need much pace e.t.c ? Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: scrubydoo on April 17, 2008, 16:28:54 PM stepup/down/shakeitallaround is pyramid like. not really keen on it, but yeah easy enough.
there's obviously different options depending on the speed you hit it at. it's not big though, don't worry! Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: McMuffin on April 17, 2008, 16:54:49 PM sounds like fun
will definately have to get some practice in though! Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: doseage on April 18, 2008, 08:48:09 AM forecast is for rain aswell, slippery slidey action!! can't wait!! Will be up there from about half 11 tomorro for practise and for about 9.30/10 on sunday! CANNE FOOKIN WAIIT!

Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: doseage on April 18, 2008, 11:59:10 AM so here's the next big question - how novice is the novice category?!!!! ;)
Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: chump on April 18, 2008, 13:36:39 PM The 17+ novice category isn't very novice, its full of sandbaggers that refuse to have a go in junior or senior. Sandbaggers you know who are! it's time to step up in class! I can pretty much guarantee 17+ novice will be the biggest class at the weekend. Maybe they should bring the rule that you can only race 3 times in novice like in bmx.
Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: chump on April 18, 2008, 13:42:28 PM Definition of a Sandbagger: To downplay or misrepresent one's ability in order to deceive someone!
Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: doseage on April 18, 2008, 13:46:22 PM lol! Definitely need to get the practise in, time for some sandbagger bashin!! lol!! :D
Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: McMuffin on April 18, 2008, 16:45:42 PM Quote some sandbagger bashin!! lol!! haha that made me laugh will be up tomorow about 11:30-12 ish what is this 4 moto thing ? does this basically mean everyone gets 4 races before finals e.t.c? Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: Keeny on April 18, 2008, 17:33:10 PM 4 races to start, you get 4 points for 1st, 3 for 2nd.... then top 16 go to quarters (if theres enough people) then top 8 go to semis and 1st & 2nd from each semi go to the A final 3rd & 4th go to the B.
Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: scrubydoo on April 18, 2008, 17:48:14 PM Novice has always been a joke!
I've not got a licence and haven't ridden properly in 5 years, so will ride novice.. Chris Roberts did mention if you podium in Novice they "would like you to move up"... maybe they should put a formal process in place?! It would make sense! something like 3 podiums and move up? with the BMX example- if you learn nothing over the 3 races and are still crap then maybe you should be allowed to continue in novice? It'd help newer riders build confidence... Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: cHaRLie on a Sunday on April 19, 2008, 20:12:58 PM ;D whats the address for chicksands???
Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: nick. on April 19, 2008, 20:16:31 PM can i really be bothered to swap my swampthings over with my high rollors?
Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: RoyalWithCheez on April 19, 2008, 20:22:10 PM Wouldnt bother, just pump 'em up a bit.
And do a search for the address/postcode, it's been up a few times. Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: McMuffin on April 19, 2008, 20:59:17 PM up there today and i have to say the new section is going to be dodgey with 4 people all going into the hairpin, its quite interesting watching different people taking different lines
do you race different people each time? or do you always race the same 4 ? Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: nick. on April 20, 2008, 19:47:53 PM ah man that was the most fun i've had in ages, despite a few sandbaggers, great atmosphere, great event.thanks to chris and everyone involved :)

Was meaning to get down there to watch, but never quite made it. Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: SJ. on April 20, 2008, 21:45:18 PM Excellent days racing!
Two 2nds and two 3rds for me putting me into the A group for the girls final, where I came 4th to probably the fastest ladies I've ever seen on a 4X track! Brilliant fun! Thanks to Chris and all the organisers and to Sue for the neck rub! ;) Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: Sawyer on April 20, 2008, 21:48:42 PM I had a massive crash in practice just after the flat corner, when my mate slid out in front of me and I got tangled up with his bike and my bike, getting stuck. Also never heard so many people shouting "OOOOHHHHH!!!" When I got all sketchy off the triple and done a no footed landing (arse onto saddle) - ooouch!!
Anyone know where all the photos are? There were about 30 photographers!! Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: scrubydoo on April 21, 2008, 08:07:35 AM bloody sandbaggers- got a great solution for it!
Novice cat- no prizes, just give the podium guys a licence and make them move up! problem solved! i raced Novice and felt like a fraud with 4 straight wins, but then got destroyed in the quarters after a 3man tangle in the 1st berm. was still laughing on my way home... Title: Re: NPS4X Post by: doseage on April 21, 2008, 08:16:30 AM sounds like a good plan, but i suppose u could still give them a little something aswell!! ;) Definitely need to work on my gates before bridgenorth aswell, I was always the last one to leave and then just had to claw my way back up!! Title: Re: NPS4X ** Race RND1 report and pic from page 9 onwards** Post by: McMuffin on April 27, 2008, 17:20:37 PM just a quick question,do you need a BC license to race non-novice cat like you do with NPS DH,as i dont like racing with the sandbaggers ::) i believe so i was thinking the same maybe go up a cat so you get rid of the sandbaggers! Its ridiculous how some of them get away with it as even the commentator at chicksands was calling certain people sandbaggers >:( hehe put scott b in with the sandbaggers to show them what its like to lose to people who shouldnt be in your cat ;D Title: Re: NPS4X ** Race RND1 report and pic from page 9 onwards** Post by: chris4x on April 28, 2008, 00:04:25 AM They should give people who podium in novice catagories BC Liscenses as prizes then If they race again that year have to enter appropriate age cat!
Goin to chicky this sat 31st Bit of practise for bridgnorth! Altho will probably end up on the DJ's most of the day Lol Title: Re: NPS4X ** Race RND1 report and pic from page 9 onwards** Post by: McMuffin on April 28, 2008, 07:49:57 AM thats a good idea
or they should make everyone have a bc license but for registration you have to swipe in your card and it comes up with your results. Meaning the people who you register with, put you in the appropiate catorgorys. would be expensive but it would work Title: Re: NPS4X ** Race RND1 report and pic from page 9 onwards** Post by: Big Air on April 28, 2008, 09:48:06 AM and finally!!!! the disc arrived, there were plenty of photo's,it took a while, and now they're on pinkbike, they're all straight from camera so theres good, bad and ugly,do with them what you will (all photo's taken by john reid) just remember if you use one to credit the guy who took it!!!
