I hope they hold a NPS at Leamington Round 2.

The old Apex track at worcester's supposed to be being re-built so i'd guess thats more likely to be round 2

Apex would be even better!



 

Apex used to be a quality track raced it back in the original National 4X or BSX as it was known as then......lets just hope its as good, if not better than the old track.

No that dates needs changing,
there will be an update on the dates next week as one of the venues may not now be available on the weekend we need.

Ill be racing Chicky on the 30th in the novice cat, never done any race of any kind before so it'll be good to see if I can cut the mustard as it were! Was speaking to one of the blokes taking subs the other week and they said they were hoping to hold one of the later rounds at chicky aswell!!

I reckon Redhill in August would be good..

are you in 12-17 novice?? if so ill be in that i belive lol  kinda nervous and this will probably be my best round out of the lot lol

I'm giving serious thought to entering the Chicksands race, I like the track and i get back from uni the day before.  Never done any 4x before either.  Reckon it's a goer.

This year we have the random gate for the start will even things up for everyone.

Just so you know the Random gate can drop anywhere between 1 to 5 seconds so no one can jump the gate. ;D

one question chris,am i right in thinking that once you podium in the novice cat you have to move up to the main thing??

would love to do this at chicky might have a go!

Yes to keep things fair if you are racing every 4x race and made the podium we would like you to move up into a series category.

hey im looking into racing in the 17+ novice category this year, if im in the novice category do i just turn up on the day and pay or do i fill in the form on the website?

Nah I'm in Spain so won't be able to make it.

Yes you can sign up on the day.

Its best if you pre enter, it save loads of time on the day and we can get the moto sheets out quicker etc etc. (also saves £10) normal entry £20 on the day £30

is that also for the novice CAT aswell?? also how do we pay?

Every where else will do camping except Chicksands sorry.

Fort Bill is such a long way for most people and when we do DH and 4X on the same weekend the 4x riders get a bit of a raw deal time wise on the course. 

is there anywhere close that we can camp?? just as i want to try get some training in on the saturday but dont want to drive 1 1/2hours there to come back to go there at 7am lol

Yes all rounds of the NPS will be using the random gate.

I will be racing in the Novie Under18 category I  think now.

Do we need to wear a fullface for the races?

The rulebook says that you just need a helmet and reccomends (but does not require) that it's a full face lid.

Seriously though, having scraped my unprotected face down the back side of the triple, I now realise that riding a 4X course without a full face lid is tantamount to stupidity. Add racing to that mix and it's a no brainer.

I was riding the ocurse with just one other person the other day in a pisspot, and thought I'd probably need one.

Luckily my full face still fits!

I was hoping to go to round 1 but cant get a lift there! So will try and get a lift for the Bridgnorth one. Will be first time racing if i do, and will be in Novice catergory, 12-17. Anyone else going to Bridgnorth?

Chicksands is always a very popular race but we have been told that there is now limited parking at Chicksands for Round 1 so we have to limit the entry.

So get your entry in once its full that's it.

I've found the holiday inn 10mins up the road (Elstow) is only £41.95 for a double and a sofa bed. ie. will sleep 4 people. AND includes breakfast!!!!

As i dont wanna be racing my 9" of travel against someone with 5".

Would it be like 7" plus?

i think anything more than 4 should be a DH bike not 100 % though

I raced it last year at chicky on my 9" beast but since there was only 2 of us we got stuck in masters and I didn't do too bad ;D

i'm real pumped for this,never raced 4x before,nor have i done a gate practice,it'll be a learning experience i suppose,
i forget,are people still using spds in 4x or have they all gone down the 5.10 route as the downhillers?

We are doing free gate practice this Saturday afternoon between 2-5pm. (normal riding fee applies to the Beds Fat Trax club)

i've been doubling it- because i'm soft!!

think it's time i hit the triple though.... it's the only way!! double it and you lose loads of speed.

keeny had a sneaky move that's quick and maintains momentum if you can't triple it! ask him nicely and he might let you in on his secret!!!

 how many runs do you get? as if its like bmx where you get 3 motos then i might try the triple on the last run

u need shedloads of speed for  the triple, I'm hoping the race conditions will give me the extra speed!!

yeah speed will definately be the key but as i havent jumped it before confidence may not be on my side

yeah gates are 2-5pm on sat. i'll be up there.

I say the right lane is quicker, I certainly can't do the stepup (3rd jump) as well in left lane.

I usually double then sprint off the triple, but in the race I think the adrenaline will get the better of me and I'll just go for the thing and die or something!

I hope i don't end up on the left but i'm not overly fussed, more worried about getting wobbly legs and screwing up the gate.

the triples fine! just pedal into and out of the berm!

   i just got my lift up there on saturday so im sorted for gate pracitces i need to get it sorted as i havent done one on an mtb before

just reading on the nps4x site,that if you rest your front wheel on the start gate when your waiting for it to drop,you get a DQ. I thought theidea was to have all our wait against the thing so your 'like a compressed spring'??can someone explain that for me????

Dont know what you think you read but you do rest your wheel against the gate.

The rules is
13.3.1.2 Any part of the front wheel that crosses the start line before the official signal to start will result in the maximum time penalty for that run. (i.e. 4th place).

Which means you can not jump the gate.

ah cheers,lol is it possible to jump the gate without doing some trialsy stuff?

haha i know the feeling as im riding clipped in but i found a secret out on how to stay stable sit down and let go of the bars while clipped in its great... not sure ill ve good at it though will try see you all sunday


in a race you can press against it as thats how you balance really ill show you on sunday nick adam showed me how to do it

   just interested has anyone done the new section yet?

 looking at the video it looks a bit dodgey for 4 people as it looks really thin and more like a section in the dual ?

 also whats the step up like  ?

yeah i've done it....

mixed views on the 1st turn- inside/outside etc.

stepup/stepdown can be completely cleared fairly easily.

last turn is uphill and will be interesting depending on where they put the finish line!

awesome though i broke my arm because of a step up

 didnt realise theres a step down , do you need much pace e.t.c ?

stepup/down/shakeitallaround is pyramid like. not really keen on it, but yeah easy enough.

there's obviously different options depending on the speed you hit it at. it's not big though, don't worry!

so here's the next big question - how novice is the novice category?!!!! ;)

The 17+ novice category isn't very novice, its full of sandbaggers that refuse to have a go in junior or senior.  Sandbaggers you know who are! it's time to step up in class!  I can pretty much guarantee 17+ novice will be the biggest class at the weekend.  Maybe they should bring the rule that you can only race 3 times in novice like in bmx.

Definition of a Sandbagger: To downplay or misrepresent one's ability in order to deceive someone!

 what is this 4 moto thing ? does this basically mean everyone gets 4 races before finals e.t.c?

4 races to start, you get 4 points for 1st, 3 for 2nd.... then top 16 go to quarters (if theres enough people) then top 8 go to semis and 1st & 2nd from each semi go to the A final 3rd & 4th go to the B.

Novice has always been a joke!

I've not got a licence and haven't ridden properly in 5 years, so will ride novice..

Chris Roberts did mention if you podium in Novice they "would like you to move up"... maybe they should put a formal process in place?! It would make sense!

something like 3 podiums and move up? with the BMX example- if you learn nothing over the 3 races and are still crap then maybe you should be allowed to continue in novice? It'd help newer riders build confidence...

I raced in 17+ Novies my first ever 4X race, and really loved it. Didn't make the cut for quarters, my best result being a 2nd place, which I was dead pleased with!

Was meaning to get down there to watch, but never quite made it.
Been playing on the course since it re-opened and that corner always makes me wonder

 not anything to serious just the obvious fights to the finish line was all i heard

 from what i saw most were on the triple landing

understandable, i'm still too chicken to go for the triple, getting closer but just not quite.

anyway this was my first race and saturday was my first time riding gates, i was sooooooo pumped for the racing! i got 2nd in my first moto, won the second one, then got a 4th :( then came in second in the last one, i qualified for the quarters but got 3rd, it was such a close race though, i absolutely loved it!! lol

having a race with commentary is wicked too, i got so pumped off the crowd n everything! see yo uat the next one hehe!

Two 2nds and two 3rds for me putting me into the A group for the girls final, where I came 4th to probably the fastest ladies I've ever seen on a 4X track!

I had a massive crash in practice just after the flat corner, when my mate slid out in front of me and I got tangled up with his bike and my bike, getting stuck. Good stuff.

i got  2 2nds and 2 3rds aswell but unfortunately not enough this time

i got all firsts in the motos and then blew it on the quaters when i came unclipped on the start ramp (haha excuses ::)) and so manage to scrub a 3rd

sweet racing though, and the commentry great! ;)

lol you won the first one flukeily tho charley!! lol :P

i came in with two 4ths,a 3rd n a 2nd in the motos n a 1st in the B-final puttin me 5th for the day, excellent racing, well done to all, especially the girlies  ;) had a right laugh!!!
big thanks to chris roberts n his team and the beds fat trax crew for puttin on a wicked day!

Once again a great race put on by Chris and the Chicksands boys............had a good days racing with some good overtaking moves going on and an alright result.

Yep had loads of fun yesterday, got a 2nd, 3rd, 3rd and a 4th which was the result of an overtaking attempt going seriously wrong!! Also never heard so many people shouting "OOOOHHHHH!!!" When I got all sketchy off the triple and done a no footed landing (arse onto saddle) - ooouch!!

Anyone know where all the photos are? There were about 30 photographers!!

Novice cat- no prizes, just give the podium guys a licence and make them move up! problem solved!

i raced Novice and felt like a fraud with 4 straight wins, but then got destroyed in the quarters after a 3man tangle in the 1st berm. was still laughing on my way home...

sounds like a good plan, but i suppose u could still give them a little something aswell!!  ;) Definitely need to work on my gates before bridgenorth aswell, I was always the last one to leave and then just had to claw my way back up!! Effin annoying being stuck behind someone who's slower than u aswell!!!  >:(

got 2nd, 3rd and 2x4th so wasnt my best but i got 1 run of practise in on gates and that it so wasnt that happy and the new section threw me off after not doing it haha

Just saw that on the BC site (i was 260) - never realised you were so close to me, looks like you woulda had me otherwise!

Great day overall, very good first 4X race and spot on organisation. Commentry was good too.

Was pretty chuffed overall even though for 3 of my moto's i started on the left and that i kept getting undertaken on the new section and losing a place.

and finally!!!! the disc arrived,there were plenty of photo's,it took a while,and now they're on pinkbike,they're all straight from camera so theres good,bad and ugly,do with them what you will (all photo's taken by john reid) just remember if you use one to credit the guy who took it!!! (unless its a bad one of course  ;) )
there should be between 150-200 but im not sure if it uploaded them all,flickr wouldnt as it was 5 times the 100mb limit!!!

took me hours to upload them cos im on a shared internet connection that was running slow last night!!! worth it though,i love seeing pics of myself riding so its good to let other see what i got too if i can!

just a quick question,do you need a BC license to race non-novice cat like you do with NPS DH,as i dont like racing with the sandbaggers  ::)

 Its ridiculous how some of them get away with it as even the commentator at chicksands was calling certain people sandbaggers  >:(

They should give people who podium in novice catagories BC Liscenses as prizes then If they race again that year have to enter appropriate age cat!

 or they should make everyone have a bc license but for registration you have to swipe in your card and it comes up with your results. Meaning the people who you register with, put you in the appropiate catorgorys.

on the friday night unique1?? Count me in!! I'll be coming on my own aswell (cue violins  :'( ;D), so meeting up with some people would always be a bonus!!

Sandbaggers dont effect me to much lukily being in seniors, but sometimes its good to have some real quick ppl in your cat it makes you improve and quickly!

Yh Shud be at bridgnorth on the Friday night aswell altho i havent really looked into how long it will take to travel, its not overly far away but if its gonna take more than 2 hours would rather camp there or travel lodge it lol!

Still not sure whether to do the Champs aswell!

Gate Practice this Sunday at Bridgnorth

The track was like a swamp and closed on Sun just gone (04/05/08)...........start and first triple are covered in about 7" deep grass and a mini landslide on the 2nd straight.

that doesnt sound too promising! although the weather's a lot better. Not sure if I'm gonna go to the gate practise because it's such a journey and my car's leaking coolant every where, let's ride the course blind!!  ::)

i managed to swing by on saturday... it was dry (apart from the water-logged bottom) and the grass at the top was impossible to pedal on- bike skipped everywhere.

really wasn't worth the p*ss take of £8.
