Title: Demo day
Post by: nick. on March 16, 2008, 22:25:31 PM
Assuming the Hill hasn't been officially re-opened by this time can we ride there on our own bikes?

BTW i dont want anyone replying to this who doesn't actually know the answer to my question OR someone linking me to the Aston Hill website saying 'look here for all information about the hill' as it doesn't answer my question.
Cheers
Nick

Im sorry if i am a hipocrit to what you have said about not replying if you don't know, but this question has been bounced about a lot, and no one knows.

Think about it, if the hill has been closed all this time, and is closed when the demo day is on, it aint just gonna be the odd 1 or 2 riders riding there is it?

I should think the answer to your question is no, and they will be looking out for stuff like this, but try your luck and get in contact with the demo day organisers. They will be far the wiser than me, and as it is their demo day, they will be the ones controlling who goes where.

May be worth a shot contacting andywas@astonhill i think his name is?

Cheers.

All,

You will be allowed to ride on the Demo day (6th April), it will cost you £5 with no exceptions to this. Parking will be in the field accross the road (the one used for races), if you are being dropped off by a parent or someone else, they will have to go into the field to do so (and this is where you will pay), strictly no pulling up in front of the gate or at the side of the road. We will be using a system on the day to make sure everyone riding has paid, and all money taken will be put back into the club to cover the cost of hiring the field and some other costs associated with the day, anything left over will be put directly towards future projects on the hill.

So, please come along either for the demo day, or just to ride, everyone is welcome, and remember the more money we raise, the more we can put into future projects on Astonhill.

Thanks

THANK YOU:D:D

So are we expecting the hill to be open as of then or is it just a one off thing untill it does open?

Title: Re: Demo day
Post by: henreque on March 18, 2008, 18:20:55 PM
wait, if we're not parking we still require to pay £5 right (seems perfectly acceptable but i'm a tad confused)

and it would be £5 per rider yeah? i think its probably easy to understand but its been one of those days  :-\

Yes, the £5 is to ride not to park, and it's £5 per person.

I'm usually a lasy *choose your expletative here* but I reckon i'll get down their early for once as it's one time only. What time does it open?

I reckon you were on your dads kona and you're mate was on the trailstar. I guess you could work out when that was from your impressive bike chronological timeline hehe.

Haven't riden since Cwmcarn in september so I wanna get back on it. Hope the weather is nice and i'm over my cold which i've woken up with this mourning but i'm sure i'll be there either way. Will be good to see you and the boys again mate. :)

Ahh that brings back memories. I take it you are refering to the time when we rode in the frost lol? Frost/roots/clay type mud don't mix, they turn the tracks into ice rinks.

Title: Re: Demo day
Post by: Vandalrider on April 05, 2008, 17:38:50 PM
yes.
you pay the fiver to ride all day, on your own bike.

but if uve booked a demo bike, when its your time (according to ur booking), you get the half an hour on the bike, then go back to your own bike after.

Just got back from the demo day. Crashed the bike 3 times and smashed the brake lever! Fortunately the people at the Iron Horse tent easily fixed it and I wasnt charged. Despite the weather being crap id like to go again (and not do the xc coarse)

Title: Re: Demo day
Post by: nick owns yall on April 06, 2008, 18:20:54 PM
Crashed 4 times on the piss easy xc course (200m of it) did we ben? lol. Tried to 1 foot that last jump on the 4x...so nearly came off and i bottomed the forks, just cus i saw a guy no foot it and wanted to try  :(

Is it just me or is every1 so drained after that? Pushing back up was hell.. slipping like a tw*t, walking back up took the best part of 20 mins!

I swear some1 spiked my drink i almost collapsed from energy loss, even though i took plenty of doddy's free red bull.  ::)

i guess this is kinda the same as me, started to feel the chain running harsher and harsher and the rear mech just cloggin up after every run

pushing in the xc route was a nightmare as the mud was so thick and horrible it got everywhere

lol  all in a days riding

Was snowing this morning mate, but somehow the track was still dusty+drifty as feck! No mud at all, the minions had a chance to shine  :D

Should be up at aston on tuesday, can't wait to rip it.

Title: Re: Demo day
Post by: nick owns yall on April 07, 2008, 10:30:46 AM
I'm scared of the prospect of cleaning my bike. Dh4 seemed easier than last time, mainly because i didn't fall off out of the 3 or 4 times i did it. I can never carry the red run to the end, i dunno why but i always think if i go left ill end up on the xc course, so i hit dh4 at full whack expecting it was the red run by accident  ::)

Post by: PRobinson on April 07, 2008, 13:39:32 PM
Bit of a shame that not everyone who said they would turned up, but i suppose only men ride the mud! ;)

The new bits on the tracks make it so much faster and more fun, well done John, Rich and everybody else.

That would be me - got to the Medway towns in Kent - from Canterbury - couldn't see anything through the snow so turned round and came home.

Shame - was really looking forward to it,
