Title: FAO: Trail Rat Post by: Chasealex on May 12, 2008, 13:21:27 PM Are you racing Wildboar at the weekend? Ridden it (or Grizedale) before? Should I be rebuilding my SX into an enduro, or should I just pack the hardtail? Will a 36T and a mtn cassette do the job? (okay, ignore that last question, i don't think i'll get a sensible answer to it from you ;) )
Title: Re: FAO: Trail Rat Post by: Trail_Rat on May 12, 2008, 16:58:54 PM from what ive heard there using very little if any of the grizedale northface trails etc
its supposed to be largely fire road according to the organisers id just pack the hard tail im not doing it but a few mates are , i finish uni on wednesday and will still be to paraletic to drive at that point 36 and mtn cassette would be fine if your in a team ;) im using a triple for my next solo at mayhem Title: Re: FAO: Trail Rat Post by: Chasealex on May 13, 2008, 08:02:48 AM Hardtail it is then, cheers!
Title: Re: FAO: Trail Rat Post by: david taylforth on May 13, 2008, 10:41:10 AM You dont need a full sus for the north face trail anyway, a hardtail is best for grizedale.
Whats the Wildboar race anyway? Title: Re: FAO: Trail Rat Post by: Chasealex on May 13, 2008, 12:00:14 PM 24 hours of unexpected riding. ::)
Title: Re: FAO: Trail Rat Post by: Trail_Rat on May 13, 2008, 12:04:11 PM for 24 hour racing id take my heckler or any other sub 4 inch fs bike thats reasonably light over a hardtail
unless someone supplied me with a 29er hardtail ! Title: Re: FAO: Trail Rat Post by: david taylforth on May 13, 2008, 12:09:47 PM 24 hours of unexpected riding. ::) Well the name sums it up perfectly. It does seem a bit wild to ride for 24hours and I can imagine its also massively boring. A wildbore indeed. Although seriously, its pretty cool that an event like this is happening at grizedale, fingers crossed the place gains a bit more coverage/popularity and then they might decide to build some glentress/innerleithen style tracks and jumps there. Title: Re: FAO: Trail Rat Post by: aha on May 14, 2008, 22:40:55 PM my mates doing it on a 29 hardtail solo 24hours with singlespeed 32-19 to give you some idea.
Title: Re: FAO: Trail Rat Post by: Chasealex on May 15, 2008, 08:22:46 AM 32-19 on a 29" wheel?
I've got no idea about 29" ratios, but that sounds like the common or garden equivilent of 32:16, so he can't be too worried about hills... Title: Re: FAO: Trail Rat Post by: Trail_Rat on May 15, 2008, 12:12:02 PM you can ride up owt on 32:19 .......
i ride 32:18 on my 29er SS for 10 hour races if i was to use my SS for a 24 id be using a 32:19 or possibly 20 just to save my legs for later stages its 32:17 on 26" |
