Calling all Hardtailers

haha For all of you who race hardtail dh , the welsh champs at Mynydd Du will also be the covert underground Unoffical Uk Hardtail Championships . Any one intrested log on to www.hardtailnation.co.uk and speak to Ace (Iain woodley) , the well known leader of the hardtailers as many know him haha .

I'm sure Husky would be up for that.

Argh. I couldn't race gethin due to it being my girlfriends 18th birthday on the friday, and thus being skint. And found out earlier today that her Prom which I am attending is on the 12th of f'ing July!!!! >:( Gonna have to do some thinking about this one, really wanted to race Mynydd Du, ecspecially now that its the hardtail champs too ;) :'(

tricky one, good luck getting out of it:P tell her you have to race it and thats it, and if she kicks off then f*ck it hah

Lol. The thing is I was (not so much now!) actually looking forward to it, my driving test was the morning after my prom last year, and even though I thought f**k it and drank copious amounts of alcohol up until about 10 o'clock, it did put a small damper on the evening. Its paid for now aswell so not going isn't an option. My only real option is  to not get bladdered (at a prom??), coming back to bridgend instead of staying up in swansea, getting a few hours sleep and then driving up to Mynydd Du rather sleepy. Sounds like a plan maybe, but you can't deny its a VERY f'ing annoying.... :P I probably sound like a whiney bitch to some of you, but its just so frustrating having two things you've been looking foward to collide, typical I suppose::)

Find someone else who wants to go in South Wales, get boombastic battered and then sleep in the car while they drive up there, be hungover for Sat practice and fine for Sunday race ;).

I'm in , heard a lot of good things about mynydd du, and I have got to do better than my last attempt at the national champs last year at rheola ( spent saturday in A & E  :P)

Not being funny but it's a no go on a dh bike. Is usually only taped open for elite practice and elite racing.

Its a blast :) if I manage to get up there, a result will be not binning it more than twice on my race runs, ha. I done my first race there in 05 on a hardtail, that was an experience I'll never forget. Got a 7min 29 :D My rear wheel came out on one of my practice runs too, haha.

i have a 24 seven full sus frame sitting on top of my cupboard but dont know if i want to build it up hmmmm. i like HT too much atm:p

Cant get onto hardtail nation today, anyone else having the same problem?

Hi out there, dropped in for a look as i had an email that someone put up a link. Yep i am ace i am trying to arrange the Unofficial Hardtail Champs, which is a hijack of the Welsh Champs, and Yes i did clear it with the Big Boss Jason Carpenter. The main details are on HTN which i will update as we get closer to the day.  The main talking point is that the Defending Champ binned it big time and i dont think he will be fit enough to race. 2 broken wrist's and 1 arm, anyway Billy from dirt has caught up with Nathan Ball and posted a link to the race and Nathans crash on the dirtmag site.
As this is an Unofficial race for the Unofficial title of Uk HT Champ we are looking after ourselves reguarding trophys ( i am making some ) the Title of Welsh Champion is being done by DragonDownhill ( jason ).  Although i am trying to rustle up small stuff for random prize's ( think best crash, last one down, etc etc ) this may or may not happen so don't expect anything.
So far the prize fund has been started by Cy from www.cotic.co.uk who has promised to send me a couple of B Fe t'shirts   ( thank you very much Cy ) so if the 700 who have viewed so far all want to race it really will be random prizes.

In reguard to dmr lew not getting onto HTN, could have been anything that ! havent heard of any prob's,  it may have been down to dirtydave as he is still doing lots of work to the site which is why things are quiet outside the forum, but that should change over the summer ( me getting a new PC and waiting for Broadband connection should help ) drop over and have alook, failing that just go racing instead !!

So how many of you are coming ?   so far i know of 4 who have already booked. And as it's a Hijacking of the welsh champs you dont want to leave it to long to enter as the race is limited to 250.
Yep once jason hits 250 thats it no more,  so if over a thousand people of viewed how many are hard enough to race ?
just curious like,   might have some random prizes and stuff, so if it's only 4 of us,  well we are in for a good weekend !!

yeah should be, go one dragon downhill website to get an entry form. The entry list isnt up yet so dont know for sure if its full or not

Glad to have you on board Ben, that makes 12 of us and loads of spaces left but not much time to enter,  Billy from Dirt is joining in, and i tried to entice someone from MBUK to enter but i think i scared them a bit,  they have run a piece on it in the mag this month ( in the shops in a few days ) but i have copied the write up and posted it over on hardtailnation just for those like me that dont subscribe, and yes Nathan is worse the wear for drink in the photo, and you should be able to work out who that other bloke with the long hair is.   ::)

wow really looking forward to this now, the hardtails are gonna be owning everyone else!

I'll be camping by the tf tuned van, if we're allowed it, but not sure about drinking judging by last time I camped and subsequently drank at a race, racing whilst pi**ed the morning after really didn't help lol.

Been down in the archives and dug out last years dragon times for Mynydd Du.
For all you sussers out there, it was dry and Ralph Jones blitzed it in 2.59  for the hardtail racers it went like this.  1st Nathan 4.22  2nd Ryan lewis 4.34  3rd Dale Harney 4.36 4th Jon Crewe 4.44  5th Ace 4.49  6th Sam Copp 5.19  so will Husky be doing a sub 4 run time ?  is there anyone out there that can take him on ? find out in 10 days time !

cool, i'll try for something in the 4's then:P and i really dont think there is anyone that can match that boy ever!

A little update on the prize fund.  Well i was rudely awoken by the posties to sign for a brown box done up with Trek tape,  now i dont remember buying any bike bits lately as i am trying to clear the old credit card.   Open it up and SURPRISE it's a box of t'shirts from www.cotic.co.uk and a very nice Factory/Team shirt which is quite posh,  So to get things going next Saturday i will have a competion for the Posh shirt,  gotta take some snaps and it should be up over on hardtailnation later today. As i havent heard back from jason i wont be up the Du tomorrow, but will be knocking up some trophys instead, dont expect any thing shiny or flash think old chainrings hammered into a lump of wood, on the bright side instead of posh trophys i will be buying a stash of cheap BEER instead, as long as your over 18 of course.   Still dont know how many are coming and i need to order some race stickers so that will be a guess, might get it right might not.  Might be some other stuff in the pipeline but havent heard back yet on that ?  and of course to qualify for the competion you will of course be racing on a hardtail,    although Al still gets a beer ( will be cheap beer)

body is pretty much mended, bike is ok , could do with a respoked rear wheel grips, and some new tyres though .   This weekend is going to be fun, really hope the weathers good and cant wait to have a look at this stepdown  :P

less than a week now! need some new parts and i dont have long to get them. the BB has now died, rear tyre needs replacing and i probably should get some brake pads

I think tyres and brake pads will be a good idea.  It was funny there yesterday, any more rain this week and a canoe might be a better option.

The Prize Fund has got a bit bigger (again )  i have heard back from that very nice chap Matt ( big boss ) from www.dmrbikes.com who is sending some stuff and t'shirts and stickers down to the race with Richard in the V12 van ( maybe they will forget Huskys bike and give us a chance ) at the moment the ratio of riders to prizes is well stacked to most HT racers bagging a prize,  unless of course some more of you out there want to enter   ( go on Al & Bob you know you want to )  the other Big news is that Nathan Ball will be down on the Sunday to hand over the Champions Jacket to whoever is crowned the Unofficial Champion,  and some real gossip now,  i think most of you know Billy from Dirt mag,  well instead of doing the Mega Jonesy has sent him to us,  and after my apperance in this months MBUK i had hoped they would also send someone in, but so far they wont reply to my emails to confirm this.    This would have been a Grudge Match Race between Rival Mags and would have been something to watch,   at the moment MBUK may or may not show up, will they just do the Sunday, will Billy be the only one from a Major Bike Mag to race,   be there to find out !

P.S.   check the dragon site as i think the Entry is still open for late entrys !

The Pressure is OFF,  just heard back from the MBUK lot, and they are mostly at the Mega and cant come.

BIG thanks to ACE for sorting this out and thanks to the companies for giving the prizes was a really good weekend, cant wait for next year. There needs to be more Hard tail things going on.

i am glad you didnt as i went a bit mad doing the Hardtail Champs awards and cant remember much about it,  i do remember saying sorry to Jason's wife as i think i was a bit sweary.  Hey first time doing something like that, i got scared,  i think i pulled it off Ok as Jason asked if i want a harder track for next year !
P.S.     paul just seen the vid over on dirt, the noise as Lee's bike hits that tree,  not nice,  good vid though.

you guys think that was hard you should have seen the one where i flipped over the bars atabout 20mph and watched my bike fly past me about 20feet high! ripping my lever clean out and bending my bars!

i maneged to ride that drop where i crash in this vid in my 1st run with no rear brake and a flat.. dont ask  how i dont no how myself

my forks are pretty screwed cracked the steerer in 3 places! but marzzochi sorted that out.. got a steel one now!

a nit more than insanness keeps me upright! there's a bit more than that to it for sure, i rode my loacl trcak on a full suss last night and beat my ht time by 33 seconds!! proper happy asit felt crap but im glad to be bouncing again it feels good though im still gona be on the ht a lot so dont you guys put em away!!
