Title: Chill Zone
Post by: Shirebikes on May 20, 2008, 21:17:40 PM
This is going to make me unpopular... but could i make the suggestion that the chill zone be made for immortals only again as it just seems to fill up with s**t posts at the moment... not seen anything of decent substance in there for a while, it just seems to be shite like 'top 10 pet hates' or people bragging about how they fought of 90 ninjas with guns...

surely then you will get people who want to be allowed on to the board writing loads of posts on other boards just to make themselves immortal. Also some of the threads are quite interesting/hilarious.

You can't make yourself immortal, you have to be madeeee immortal  :P

If we removed such people from the Chill Zone, they'd post shite elsewhere... If a thread is dire, click the report to mod button, tell us why and we'll likely remove it.

i usually go to the chill zone if i want a laugh while i'm here reading about tech stuff and current affairs in mtb, it's just a bit of fun. if you want to read serious posts not on the topic of mountainbikes then there are plenty of other forums out there, try volconvo or b3ta depending on your fancy.

If what people post there annoys you so much, then why dont you just not use that part of the forum?

problem solved

I suspect that you two who have complained didnt read the stuff in the chill zone when it was immortals only...I've come to this conclusion because neither of you are immortals...

Mr Ed's point is pretty true, there was still funny banter, along a similar vain as now, just fewer crap threads about random shite games, and other stuff that's been posted 10million times in the past.

It wasnt a case of it being all serious...just less crap to have to sift through before you found something that made you laugh so much you cried  ;)

I'd agree with Mr Ed, but I cant say it really bothers me.

Why don't you make a boeard called 'The Immortals' then rather than taking away the chill zone board from us mere mortals?

Thats a great plan - i'm all for that.

The chill board's not exactly fast moving, it doesn't take much effort to scroll through the junk posts.

Mad for that...it'd need a funkier name though...

on another site i use (not so much anymore) there was a forum that normal members couldnt see, you had to be voted in. (I know this because i was voted in :) )
could you not just make a new forum for the immortals thats similar to the chill zone but free of 'plebs' and invisible to everyone else?
locking the chill zone to normal members seems pretty unfair, its a minority of us who post crap....

chill zone, also helps with boredom. For example the internet jumps thread, the hot girls thread.  But yeah to be fair some Sh*t does get posted but can be verry funny:P

Al, i totally agree with what your saying, hadnt thought of that one...

Rootes

it doesnt bother me, as such, more just the level of maturity has declined, for example when pre pubescent teens start talking about there sexual exploits, and then come up with idiotic exaggerations to defend themselves when they get laughed at... or when people post about every single aspect of there life - it really wouldnt suprise me if a certain member posted up 'shal i have... a cup of tea or coffee' (with included spelling mistake..)

there hasnt been a quality thread in there for a long while - green cocks was oneof the funnist things ive ever seen on a forum... nothing of that calibre for a while..

As for an immortals only board, might be good, how much use it would get is another matter.. probably worth a go...

isn't that exactly what you were asking for in the first place? or do you only want a board if the rest of us don't have one?

Title: Re: Chill Zone

To be fair Ed we probably wouldn't have had another thread like Green cocks even if it had stayed as it was. The green cocks thread was no different to all the threads popping up now, just you and I were part of the crowd that made that thread funny.. I'm sure it was just as immature! Plenty of people probably looked at that then and thought "Tossers", too!

Thers always going to be people posting crap, maybe not as much if you remove the named perpertrators but it would be impossble to stop the flow of crap posts

An "immortals only" place sounds like a good idea, even thought I'm unimmortal :(

Devans and myself happen to think long and hard about the crap in which we post, its not all useless rubbish about how many slags we've had "action with" etc.

to be fair, i have been a member of another very popular forum for a while, and didnt really use here. I now use both, and when i first looked in the chill zone, i thought all the members of mbugay had transended onto here! Luckily, the rest of the forum does not reflect this!

Wit

Edit: But by having  a chill zone, it keeps all these peoples mind poo in one place, and so does not clog up the rest of the forum with it. When it starts to spread elsewhere is when one starts to worry!!

How about turning chill zone into a more specific thread and then making a thread literaly for what ever people have to say.

Or have a voting system, anyone who "posts crap" can get put up for vote to be permanently/short term banned from chill zone?

Just an idea.

That was what we were going to do with karma, but now can't because people have been misusing it. Though, we still might anyway.

Well Leo's never going to be on here anymore then :D

I'd say that the Chill zone is good, it's a laugh to read when you are bored, and why ban Mikey and Devans over something so petty? Most of the stuff they post maybe sh*t but it's funny sh*t which entertains people and means they will come back to read more.

As Al has already stated Karma has got out of hand thankyou very much. :)

Anyway I post helpful posts, the reason i get my minus Karma is because I like to take the p!ss out of certain people on posts and have a laugh instead of being deadly serious, afterall isn't biking about having fun and a laugh?  :)

its ok to rip someone in the chill zone imo but in technical its stupid. The post should be how to fix the problem and no other crap.

It's either in Chill zone, General banter or spangly new kit, the people are my friends i'm just having a laugh, not bothered if someone frowns upon that.

We could just leave the Chill Zone as it is,

the CHILL zone is supposed to be a place where you can just have a laugh, i use it all the time just to have a bit of a laugh.

If you don't like it don't go on it

wasn't having a go mate, tbh, i find some of the stuff you post hilarious. its just people like pomaz, trying to boast about things such as (apparently) getting 'loads of action' that gets on my nerves.

karma seems not to have done much, more turned into a 'who can get the most - karma' competition, and people will give others negative karma just because they dont like them because of something they said 2 years ago when they disagreed with them, so not much help really.

buuuuut, at the end of the day, yes, it is just the internet, and if people post cr*p other people don't like, how hard could it be to, say, ignore it?

Title: Re: Chill Zone

I'm not on this forum much anymore because it's full of tossers, people who think that there status on here means they're gods gift.

Karma is f**ked because no-one actually knows why they got it, it's abit like you telling your baby off without pointing at the mess it just made. how can he ever learn????

Systems on other forums like bikechatforums.com is a much better way of stop people posting s**t, as every member can vote on each post made by every individual.

People like Fingerbike abused karma over the fact i had a crisis at home a couldn't buy is frame. he then gave me negative karma on every occaision, but it got corrected by the mods.

This used to be a wicked forum but now it just gets ruled by a few people an it's w*nk.

Even admins rarely post nowadays, grqanted you get pomaz saying he's shagged some girl but he's probably lieing but no-one actually cares.

f**k it, if your interested in mtb, then read what you like, an if your bored an want a laugh type some random s**t in chill zone.

To be honest though, it is only the internet.

Honest to god, that's the best thing someone has said in years.

I must say, there is very little reporting of crap by the people that complain about it the most. We can only help those that help themselves, so help us by reporting crap and we'll do what we can (like ban people who don't stop posting s**t).

i'm glad someone said it

when i started on the forum i got a +1 and was happy, but then i somehow managed to get -15 from somewhere and now i dont really like posting.

there are always going to be 2 sides to an argument and someone is going to report it who wasnt happy and then people will start getting bad karma

and before you ask im not a teenager or young and immature, but i dont like being spoken to like an idiot by people the same age as me or younger just because they are god like or immortal, and thats probably why i get bad karma

sorry to rant
