Title: Whats the deal with riding caersws outside of events?
Post by: adam_hicks on May 21, 2008, 09:24:59 AM
Hey guys,

My uni exams end on friday so me and a mate shall be heading around wales hitting up all the tracks we don't have time to get to in term time, anyway, caersws looks immense and i've heard speak of it being fine to ride there as long as you go speak to the farmer first and slip him some pennies. Is this true because I don't want to jepodise the venue, also if it is cool to ride there has anyone got any contact details for the farmer.

cheers

Tis true, have done it myself.  He has a stack of liability forms for you to sign and everything, so is obviously used to it :) (He'll want a fiver each).  If you have a suitable vehicle he'll let you uplift up and down the fireroad as well (well, he let us anyway).

I`m out that way myself soon. So, can someone tell me, where`s the farm and or the farmer I can ask for permission. Any phone number. And whats considered to be a suitable vehicle.

Cheers, Vic.

You wnot do it in anything other than a 4x4, unless you want to burn your clutch out!!

FWIW I've driven up and down it in my van with no problems.  Admittedly I only did one run (we used a landy the rest of the day) but it had no problems as far as I was aware, think my clutch would hold up to it fine.

Just use the gears ont he way down, don't ride the brakes like a lot of people do when going down hills.
