Title: classified threads
Post by: The Unique One on July 21, 2008, 23:10:04 PM
hey

had a little idea that just popped into my head

well the idea is that a layout on full bikes (susser and HT) so that its like as you see on the orange website so that all the components are listed in the same order and then it would make things alot more clear for people to read and have a small section with whats wrong, reason for sale and contact areas

what do you think??

cheers
paul

Its a good idea, but...no one would bother doing it

at the moment its bad enough to expect pictures, and a full spec... so i doubt people would fill in a proforma if the didnt have to..

in that case it should be full or not let them post the add at all... and for parts that are non exsistant on the bike put N/A like they do in the spec list for orange bikes on thier website

still an idea though

cheers

It would also filter out the wrong kind of post being made.  I.e. hardtail in the Full sus section.

I think that it's a good idea as well; I mentioned it here (http://www.southerndownhill.com/forum/index.php/topic,146240.0.html) a couple of months back - It got a good response but then it never went any further

It could potentially clean up the classifieds so much more and make the threads more uniform, it would also reduce the amount of inappropriately posted threads, i.e. wrong section etc.

The classifieds are a section of the forum where people can advertise their stuff for free. We do it because people find it useful. If we started writing specialised classified software to do specific classified ad stuff, rather than just being a board on the forum, it'd be a fair amount of work for us and TBH its not really a 'core' part of what SDH is (or will be, once some stuff gets sorted). I do completely understand where people are coming from, and if we can find a nice, easy way to make things better, we'll do it, but ATM I have not found anything. Please do speak to me (forum thread, PM, email, in person...) if you have ideas, I'm all ears :)

Cheers,
Al

I was wondering if SDH had some sort of 'selling wizard software' cooking in the kitchen.  It would be handy to have say 3 pages, which went step-by-step through the selling process.

Question 1:  Full Sus or not?  (dictates category)
Question 2:  Price?               (fills out the 'price' element in a template)
Question 3:  Condition?   New/Excellent/VG/Average/Tatty/Broken   (potentially people could 'filter' the condition they are searching for?)
Question 4:  Do you have a photo?   If yes, provide a box for entering the URL or upload?

The questions could continue to ask:   If it's not sold within a week, an auto price drop to a pre-set amount by the seller - same after 2 weeks, etc.   Then the advert could 'expire' after 6 months.  Would the seller split (saves people asking 5 million times - "Will ya split mate?") - a simple "YES/NO" on the advert could tell them.

At the moment, this only applies to Bikes

Could it somehow be linked into someone's Profile on the Forum - so you can see what else they're selling?

I know it would take many many hours to develop the system, but everything has to start from an idea...

Only problem with the above idea is the automatic price drop option.

That would just be pointless, someone could decide to drop the price by more at one time blah blah or simply just not want to drop the price.

Good idea though :P :)
