Title: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: JAK on July 24, 2008, 00:52:00 AM Apologies if this has been done, but just saw this (on Pinkbike - http://p1.pinkbike.com/photo/2286/pbpic2286477.jpg Credit to dirtmag, but this wasnt ripped off there, it was ripped off some random guys photo album on pinkbike
(http://p1.pinkbike.com/photo/2286/pbpic2286477.jpg) Looks noice! Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Devans on July 24, 2008, 00:58:05 AM Looks like a refurbed ATX?
Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: JAK on July 24, 2008, 01:05:58 AM Isnt it Dw link?
Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: B3N on July 24, 2008, 01:22:29 AM does look a lot like a sunday....
let the speculation begin... Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: lankey on July 24, 2008, 05:25:38 AM could be dw his time at iron horse is over,
but more to the point bos shock :O wow!!! G Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Harry Barn-Owl on July 24, 2008, 07:17:04 AM It is looking rather Sunday-esque.

---Quote The decision to move on was completely mine, and it was a very tough decision at that. I still remain friends with Stew Barnett the owner of WWCS, and have many friends in the company still. We built something special together over the past 6 years, and you just don't forget that over night. The timing was right for me to move on and dw-link was part of that move for me. I wish Iron Horse and all of my friends at Iron Horse the best of luck moving forward. Unquote--- Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Konstantinos Kazantzoglou on July 24, 2008, 07:24:08 AM And a second cross post:
---Quote IH totally has the right to build bikes and sell them through 3-31-09. I think I've made that pretty clear in the past. The 3/31 date was originally intended to give IH a little breathing room for selling through 2008 stock etc.., but it's all good with me either way. If they want to update spec and graphics and sell some '09 bikes, that's in their power for sure. IH is a class act and I have no doubt that they intend to do the best things that they can for their business. Dave Unquote--- Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: johnnycash on July 24, 2008, 07:39:31 AM i think that pretty much confirms the rumour of where the DW link is going. This bike will be huge with the void in the market left by the sunday.
Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Squirrelking on July 24, 2008, 08:02:16 AM Er you guys are a bit slow on the uptake, DW pulled out of Ironhorse months ago, they're going to some other company (can't remember who as it's a small brand) but it definitely is NOT Giant.
The Maestro linkage has been compared to the DW link for years, this is just business as usual... Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Pslide on July 24, 2008, 08:16:02 AM What's up with the saddle on that thing? It's been castrated!
Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Muttely on July 24, 2008, 08:18:06 AM please tell me thats not replacing the glory! :-\
Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Interdh5 on July 24, 2008, 08:20:14 AM What's up with the saddle on that thing? Post by: [chilled76] on July 24, 2008, 08:51:43 AM Top tube looks existin glory as does the back end. The down tube looks like a beefed up Reign.
As for the suspension... they have moved the base pivot for the shock inwards a lot from the old one that recessed into the down tube.....doesn't necassarily infringe on DW link patent because of this though. One thing...It looks a hell of a lot lighter than the existing Glory! Paul Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: gibsonja on July 24, 2008, 09:07:23 AM is it me or have the just taken the bit where the shock goes through the frame(on the glory) and lowered it all to reduce weight? ::)
Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Harry Barn-Owl on July 24, 2008, 09:11:44 AM How would that reduce weight? It might lower the centre of gravity a bit, but not much. I think it might appear lighter at first glance because the tubing looks like it's been marginally slimmed down. There's no weigh (excuse the pun ;D) of telling until they get the scales out though...
Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: ImprezaRob on July 24, 2008, 09:19:14 AM I was under the impression the Glory was to remain largely unchanged for 09..... could this not be a 2010 prototype?
Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: SteveJanney on July 24, 2008, 09:23:22 AM Im sorry but thats just disgusting
Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: gibsonja on July 24, 2008, 09:28:51 AM just found this:
http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/512654/ Proto glory back in '06 with the same EXTRA small seat. :'( Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: [Cookie Monster] on July 24, 2008, 09:30:50 AM That is Oscar Saiz's bike. He always does that to his saddle.

Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: kingxadjez on July 24, 2008, 11:31:49 AM Hill is off to Trek too, apparently.
Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: johnnycash on July 24, 2008, 11:40:37 AM What i heard was that it was giant who will have the DW link. Ibis already license it and IH will use it until spring next year.
This bike would substantiate the rumour as the glory was close to a sunday anyway, but this is almost identical. Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? This bike would substantiate the rumour as the glory was close to a sunday anyway, but this is almost identical. just because it looks similair, it doesn't mean it infringes on the DW link licence. Go on dwlink.com and you will see it's not about how it looks but ithe patent is to do with ratios and distances etc. Paul Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: joeturnerrfx on July 24, 2008, 12:01:26 PM in my eyes , it looks almost the same as the "old looking" maestro system , just looks like its been slightly refined and moved .
hopefully giant will have droped some weight off the frame . 10lbs for frame and shock would be nice joe Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: neale on July 24, 2008, 13:07:41 PM i hope it does replace the current glory..
Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Kona Stoner on July 24, 2008, 13:14:01 PM ive seen photos of new 09 glorys but in the simalar shape as previous models maybe this new one is a complete new model?
Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: joeturnerrfx on July 24, 2008, 13:22:30 PM i hope it does replace the current glory.. and i hope they keep the price tag off the current glory Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Pete.. on July 24, 2008, 13:26:12 PM a quote from DW himself
"Unfortunately this is not a licensed dw-link bike, and I had nothing to do with the design. As this point it's gotten blatant and ridiculous. It's certainly not fair, but what in life is. We have to keep believing that the system does what it is supposed to and things are righted eventually. I'm a firm believer in karma, so.." http://www.ridemonkey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=206317 so no giant do NOT have d-w link! Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: The Unique One on July 24, 2008, 13:30:35 PM i hope it does replace the current glory.. i dont..... i love the old glorys it looks nice but im not so sure on it really :S good design though cheers paul Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Paul Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Pete.. on July 24, 2008, 13:39:18 PM Pete do you know anything about the quiet court case that went on between Giant and Iron Horse? Paul no idea i mate sorry, I just read forums like anyone else. this isn't aimed at you chilled \\\\mini rant//// tbh there are other forums other than here many with a wealth of info its just 90% of users here have the blinkers on and don't even know other forums exist other than descent world and sdh Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Ben@Rutlandcycling on July 24, 2008, 16:04:42 PM New glory is seriously tempting. Very ironhorse sunday. Ill see if i can find some due dates of giant over the next week!
Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: boyko-benji on July 24, 2008, 16:09:46 PM i think it looks quite alot like the new trek session 88... there are alot of companies that seem to be styling their bikes like the sunday too.
ibis already had the dw link license so surely it will go to someone else in 09? hopefully a company who make a dh bike ! :D Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Downhiller13 on July 24, 2008, 16:27:10 PM looks more like the IH 7point frames than the sunday IMO
Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: 4130 on July 24, 2008, 16:58:26 PM looks very dw link. doubt it will come stock with bos though. unless you're willing to pay a fortune that is.
Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Jeron on July 24, 2008, 18:06:41 PM If they made the seat tube straight, instead of bent. Then it would look loovely.
Still, it is very sunday like. One thing though with that linkage, the lower rocker revolves around the bottom of the shock. It doesnt on a dw link such as on the sunday. So its obviously not DW anyway to go along with what mr dw has said anyway. I think im wrong :D Downtube looks alrite, not too bendy, but a little subtle, looks nice. Headtube join is same as sunday though. Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: The_Night_Sheep on July 24, 2008, 19:44:46 PM you are wrong
Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Geekboy on July 24, 2008, 20:10:10 PM Indeed, he's on Ibis, not Giant... Thats the one, cheers :) He's also got them on Pivot bikes. There also some rumours that a much bigger brand is proto'ing them for their '10 range too. Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? i believe this could be the new glory? looks slightly different. especialy where the shock pivot is mounted to the downtube. (http://www.dirtmag.co.uk/images/uploads/news/newgiant1.jpg) doesnt look like the new glory to be to be honest. looks like an IR by how the shock is still placed vertical. Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: xy9ine on July 24, 2008, 21:23:52 PM Indeed, he's on Ibis, not Giant... Thats the one, cheers :) He's also got them on Pivot bikes. There also some rumours that a much bigger brand is proto'ing them for their '10 range too. another rumor that the dw link is being picked up by a smaller, more evil company Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Geekboy on July 24, 2008, 21:25:21 PM The thing is, Giant must know those shots have gone out and the new Glory is due soon. It strikes me as commercial suicide to leak shots of the '10 bike just before they try to launch the '09...

Their twin toptube hardtail just upsets me. Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Gridds on July 24, 2008, 21:30:45 PM Its interesting to read dw's comments on ridemonkey. He doesn't sound happy about the Giant.
He complains that they're a big multi national company and he's just a one man business, and that they're stealing his paycheck. Surely with his design and patent he could become a big selling bike company himself as his design is so good (Evil)? Look how popular his bikes are made by other companies (IH).... Anyway there are differences between the Giant and the Sunday/DW Link. The first one I noticed was the different pivot placements in the top link.. Anyway alot of bikes these days seem to be settling on similar looking designs. It looks nice IMO. Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? and it will be the new glory notice the trend in the bendy down tube and the removal of the glory hole, the glorys the only one left with a massive hole in the down tube now. Post by: Gridds on July 24, 2008, 21:51:27 PM Oh yeah Paul I've read that, I'm aware of the subtleties. That is kind of my point. Even though they look similar, there will be subtle differences. Hence the Giant is not actually a DW-link.

Even though they look similar, there will be subtle differences. Hence the Giant is not actually a DW-link. I wouldn't be surprised if it actually, technically is a DW-link. I haven't looked over the patents personally 'cause I really cba, but the impression I get is that the definition of the design is quite broad. Besides, regardless whether it is or isn't, it's still a blatant case of the little guy getting screwed over by a huge company. So what if the pivot points are slightly repositioned? It's still essentially the same and really isn't fair. :-\ Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Geekboy on July 24, 2008, 22:00:29 PM Its interesting to read dw's comments on ridemonkey. Hence his annoyance. Although that's not a conversation I want to get into as I have sympathy for him, but I'm considering calling my local Giant dealership... Hence I'm a massive f'ing hypocrite. Although in my own defence, I can't afford the £700 price difference between a Glory and a Sunday with the rent I'm paying here in central London... Anway, I digress. Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant? Post by: Gridds on July 24, 2008, 22:08:07 PM Oh sure it is a pretty audacious copy, blatantly. Respect and sympathy to DW, but it's all healthy competition as I see it.
Imagine if someone patented the single pivot...! Personally i see it all as natural bicycle evolution. A good design will prevail. Title: Re: Interesting 09 giant?
