well you will push to the very top and not want to do it again .

your best pushing to the fire road and riding the differant tracks down from there

Push up ain't too bad it can be done in about 30-40 mins. I usually push to the top then go to about the 2 fire road down (just before the last run to the bottom). Then go back up to the top as the push isn't as hard/long.

Im glad this thread came up.

When you say it takes 30-40 minutes, is that walking or cycling ?

Straight up from the campsite, up the field, and then cutting to the path that follows the stone wall to the top, with added bottle of stella and spliff is your best way. Takes a while but it's worth it.

Take about 40mins as said but you can casual push to the top in a hour with a few brakes....

It's worth sessioning. There are more than 4 ways to get to the bottom but I think there are 4 main tracks. But there are loads of litle bits and different ways to go. The longest part of the push is from the bottom to the fire road. After that it's not too bad.

There are hundreds of sections.  It's a long walk to the top but the top sections are good, walk to the top and session different top sections, then middle etc.  then when you get to the bottom...go again.

i've been a couple of time and both times it was best to puch to the top in about 45 mins then section the top a few times, then the middle a couple as thats a longer push. and then finally a couple on the bottom as thats not as good as the top. then have lunch do it all again, get to the bottom and up again for a final full run. the you get a quality days riding

Defo worth sessioning as you are only gonna want to do it once. If its hot then take a bigger pack and make sure you dont wear your armour etc on the way up or you will melt. It is like climbing a 700ft hill with your bike - beacuase it is climbing a 700ft hill with your bike!

just got back from innerleithen today, tbh, the push up is pretty tiring, but after the first time it seems to be quicker.

i made 3 full pushes and then sessioning of sections, but the push is sooo worth it the tracks there are the best i've ever ridden, by far my favourite was the 'cresta run' and if you start on the cresta and carry straight where it turns right in the mid upper section it goes on to a bloody techinical section.  ;)

i say go for it and take lots of water, lucily for me the sun wasn't too bright but it was humid and  i got through 3l of water for each push up, i would have got through more but my camelback wouldn't hold it.  ;)

ner, i was only there today, i rode the top section of matador, but tbh i only really took a huge liking to the cresta run with the ulternate finish, with tight/steep/rooty, switchbacks into the bomhole, instead of the more mellow singletrack into the bombhole.

Yeah, I preferred the lower section of cresta, but really liked the drops on Matador, did you do the luge singletrack, that's good, joins up after the tunnel and then links onto lower cresta for a good finish, that berm after the bombhole was proper dusty wasnt it, couldn't see when I was following mate!!

The push up isnt really that bad. Its worth it if your going to do Matador or Make or break.
