Ive looked all through schedules on the bbc website and maybe its just me but I cant find the times or any confirmation that the olympic bmx races are gonna be played out on the bbc! They say theyre the official channel for the olympics or something so I havent tried any other sites, can anyone enlighten me??

they will be shown
at 0200 or something on one day for the quals etc.
cant think of the date off the top of my head, i've got them written down somewhere. I read them from the times olympic planner.

Radio Times states that the BMX racing will be available via the red button at 2am - 5am thursday 21st august.

They probably will, but like EVERYTHING ELSE, it's available on red button live at the time it's actually happening.  We'll get the best bits of it live later in the day most likely, like every other sport that's happened.

If theres any chance of a medal the BBC will show it live on BBC1 without any red button business.  You can always watch it live on the internet anyway....

Hopefully they'll have it on the internet like you say should get gold in the women's, any chance at the mens? When's the XC on?

in the Radio Times there is a timeline for each channel, and on freeeview it is on the "available via red button" channel at 2am- 6am thursday morning LIVE... then there wiell be highlights throughout the day I am sure.

Because during the day for us, is night time for them, and for a lot of other countries.

They dont plan the Olympics around British television viewers...

i'm hoping Jared Graves brings home the gold for the mens

Yeah i really hope he does. Think hes the favourite! Would make missing out on the worlds 4x the last couple years a lot better. God knows whats gonna happen when he comes back to mtb next year.

We have a girl thats supposed to do really well so i imagine they will show it on bbc without any of the red button faff. Especially as its a new event and what not.

Anyone know if you can record (sky + ) when your watchin the multiscreen bit?

Definitely will be cheering another country on for the mens XC. I rode with them at Cwmcarn a couple of months back when they were training there with Jonny Cheetham. They spent the day bitching about us downhillers behind our backs (my mate who wasn't riding overheard them talking about me) and trying to get a conversation going with them was painful. In short they're a cunch of bunts.

Shall be watching the womens BMX for sure though!!

Liam Phillips, very controversial choice of rider that has split the world of ukbmx, most people think we should have Kelvin Batey there (our no1 rider) but the bcf held the trials when he was injured so he performed well below his best!!!

Shanaze is hot fav for gold in womens!!

Graves has had some seriously s**t luck in 4x recently, were it not for his back wheel exploding he'd have won last years World Champs, and there was an incident this year as well.

He could well win the BMX, I'm just rooting for Shanaze personally.

Really impressed with ACC, just as fast as the mens! Shame about the brit girls whammy though.

The womens track is very different to the mens, so ACC was super quick, but not as fast as the men I don't think.

My worry was more about Shanaze being injured, holding her wrist :S

Yeah looked like she was holding it for a bit. Easing off loads. In the replay it looked as if she slid mostly on her elbow. Well shes got a bit now before her second run so hopefully she will be good to go. Shes probably tough as old boots too.

just watched it on news this morning, top job shanaze! reckon she's got good chance for gold!, start looks quicker than ACC imo, pi$$ed me off that BMX was advertised by the commentators as being for the younger generation - ACC is 30!!!!! they make's it sound as if it's not a "proper" sport when they say $hit like that. rant over. good track though!!

Shame read binned it on her first run, but atleast she didn't seem seriously hurt.

Although I'm not a bmxer, i'm a big fan of any two wheeled sports, so seeing this in the olympics is only a good thing.

yeah shame she crashed out. I was up anyway as id only just got home from work, but i think i woke my housemate up shouting at the tele  ::) much better second run though....cant wait for the bmx later, shanaze is gonna bring it home and im fully intending to stay up and watch it!! who else is gonna watch it live??

must say though, im really pleased and proud of all the british cyclists, i knew we'd do well, what with chris hoy and victoria pendleton (and hopefully shanaze too!) but i never thought we'd do as well as we have!!!  amazing, well done to them all, infact no sod, it, well done to all the british team, we've been immense this year  ;D

It's on the BBC, they cater for everyone.  If they are going to cover what is a 'minority sport' it needs to be interesting to the layman as well.

4th place in the overall standings at the min is awsome. not sure if thats been updated yet either.

hopefully we can make a gap from austrailia.

Rain forecast!!! Just saw on BBC forecast for the BMX finals. Maybe this could give those from a MTB background an advantage? Should see some nice wipeouts on the berms (this is the appropriate terminology used for banked corners)

Also greasy tarmac berms with slick tyres is going to end in some crashes, Especially when the womens race has to take a tighter corner from the first berm.

ACC takes the win, the brit crashes in an all or nothing over take on the last bend and clipped ACC back wheel

gutted for reade, but acc seemed uber determined to win.

Its pretty obvious that reed is fairly unexperienced when it comes to race ettiquette. She should have known she would not have gotten inside of ACC on the final turn. Could have walked away with silver but threw it all away.

Excellent for ACC and kintner. Doing the mtb scene proud.

Poor graves, i cant believe that. He must be devestated after getting taken out. When will it ever go right for him. Sucks. Was leading into the second straight and everything.

how the hell can you say shanaze is an unexperienced racer? the x2 world championship titles would prove otherwise.
she has also been racing for at least 8 years when i used to race bmx. some people dont half talk s**t.
i think she was just unfortunate that acc was coming down the berm at the point where shanaze was going up to over take on the OUTSIDE not the inside.

er whatever jb, cos shinny is really inexeperienced at bmx racing, more bothered about a mtb people than supporting yer own country,
yeah graves went out but who gives a s**t, he got way out pulled down the first straight just like most 4xers do by bmx's best(done a good 1st turn but got out pulled again), maris strombergs proved why he's world champ and won the mens in a good race, gotta say i was suprised donny got 3rd i thought he was totally of it going into this olympics

 as for the women, well what can you say, shinny had it all to loose with the pressure, anne caro ride an awesome first turn that was a good cut back and i think it was on the cards as shinny would always take the first straight on power, but anne caro did deserve it in the end, she was so smooth on the track and looked faultless, if shinny didn't win then you'd say ACC deserved it, a proper fitting end to her cycling career i think she's totally proved she's the most skilled female cyclist racing has seen over the years

 but just gutted, it was all on and it went wrong, and you know you have to have a bad race one day, shinny being totally unbeatable for the last few years she just had her "off day" finally catch up with her, just a shame it was at the olympics

Fair play to ACC she did dominated DH when she wanted to now wins the top BMX race got to repect it.
Reade, can do it in 2012 or give that velodrome stuff a go for a dead cert.

Yep, this is what I was going to say.  Nothing to do with race etiquette, and all to do with a last ditch attempt to win gold, as Im sure Shaneaze would have felt silver wasnt good enough

Thirded, second place is first loser.  Good on her for giving it a go in the last corner rather than sit it out for an easy silver.

Yeah, impressed at her determination.. good move by ACC in the first corner but a pity Reade couldnt copy it in the final corner!

Just read a news review which confirms what we've said "I didnt spend all those years training as hard as I do, just so I can go home with a silver medal"

Excellent attitude, and I completly agree.  I have massive respect for athletes who will do anything for gold - it shows they're determined and hungry.

And being 19 she has plenty of years left in her. She'll only be 23 at the 2012 Olympics, so she can have another crack at the gold then (and maybe she should have a play at 4X in the middle - to keep it interesting. If I was a team boss I'd be pitching the idea of the 2009 4X WC to her right now!)

I can't see her turning to 4X with her previous involvement in track cycling, hasn't she already mentioned doing track and BMX in 2012?
Track cycling, organised, professional, lottery funded.....or 4X where even at the pinnacle of the sport (World cups) races are still held on makeshift tracks finished the day of the competition or sometimes even cancelled all together at the last minute? 

She does track riding as well doesnt she? I read that Pendleton/Reade are the either world sprint, or persuit champions?

I think she'd fair rather well at 4x - be good to mix it up a bit, and wont harm her BMXing - it's all good experience, and another string to her bow.

Oh I wouldn't expect her to ditch Track and BMX for 4X, but it'd be useful cross training. I reckon she could do incredibly well at 4X. And if she can get race experience on dirty bumpy rutted WC 4X corners it could well help prevent more slip ups like her 1st seeding run (I've heard it mentioned in interviews with pro BMXers that with top level BMX tracks being so smooth and having tarmac berms the art of cornering on a BMX is somewhat lost at the top level)

So how would riding rutted 4X tracks help tarmac bermed cornering?  Seems the velodrome would be a better place to hone those skills?

Just cornering skills in general. The ability to hold a slide, to feel for grip and to not just hit it flat out, hope for the best, and then lose all confidence when you drop it.

money is in track , she would be a fool not to go to track ...

exposure , coaching , bc money and training camps , she has the opertunity to go there , if i had it id go ...

my work colleagues on the ODP squad for the commonwealth and 2012 the ammount of training tools and oppertunities  he gets !

ITs pretty incredible what you get from the BC if your deemed good enough to make the cut !

Well seeing as first and third place went to mtbers, one of which is a world champ on the 4x track, then it seems maybe taking up 4x training could be a good move. To two disaplines could only ever compliment eachother.

Personally i think she needs to develop her race head a bit. But shes still really young mind so theres plenty of time.

 one thing that gets me though, everyone seems to think anne caro is new to it, but they all forget she was world champ BMX in 1992 + 1993 on Sunn Chipie prior to riding MTB,

ok bmx has changed a bit then, but you could say it was a bmx rider who won after all,  kinter who got 3rd was nowhere near reade and chausson, infact none of the girls are anywhere in the same league as these two so i don't see how 4x comes into it, just shinny has amazing strength/fitness but can sometime give it too much she crashed a euro round a few years ago with a hugh lead just by pedalling too much, chauson is just an amazing rider, she'd probably beat all the girls in the shopping trolley she's so much better the same stands for her when she did DH they were all s**t compared to her,
 4x is pretty lazy anyway compared to bmx from an athletic point of veiw,  and maris stromberg won the mens because he trained the most for the superx format(he didn't do that well racing in america nbl/aba apparently), also he's euro champ and world champ.
 learning to hold slides didn't help graves much when he slid on tarmac and highsided over the top in turn 2

Another rider slid into him, causing him to loose grip...find grip and then highside as you said.


I sort of agree with you about the 4x being not quite as physically demanding as the bmx, but in the last couple of years we have seen alot more DH orientated 4x tracks come along to sort this out. I think 4x is more about your line choice and has more to think about, whereas the bmx is more a case of lead down the first straight with your elbows out and cruise to the finish. Or...i could be talking shite.

i don't think there was anything he coulda done, he was going over and that was it,that seems to be the trouble with tarmac you don't get any warning,

 i used to race loads of bmx and i still race 4x, i pretty much got over bmx when more tracks in this country started using tarmac turns which i feel sterilised the racing, along with the fact that most bmxers can't corner well hense they love tarmac, thus bmx has become a bit velodrome with jumps

 4x is more tacticle with line choice, its still a skill sport, not an out-out athletic one like track/bmx, graves did well to get out in front at the first turn as he got totally out pulled down the straights a good ride by him in the end.

then womens race was won by skill and still can be untill some more riders with power like shanaze come along she just got beat by anne caro who is the most skilled women ever ACC could turn her hand to anything like skiing etc etc and do well,
 then mens is all about power so can only be won by fulltime bmx riders, who will all go along to have careers in track riding keirin, kilo, and sprint cats, which we haven't done too bad in by our two previous bmx champions

  but dont get me wrong, the mens race was good to watch, its just a shame bbc couldn't be bothered to show it in the highlights today, i'm quite pi**ed with that, it shows what bbc really think of it, but then i suppose they wouldn't have bothered showing track if we had not won so many gold medals
