after deciding i may keep my P2 ss i will need a ss kit that is suitable to be used with hope pro 2 freehub bodies.

i was recommended the cusset double but you have to pay an extra £9 to choose your ring size.

i'd ideally like a 15 or 16t ring

any recommendations?

also, is there anyway of making my current DMR ss kit work with a pro 2 without damaging the freehub?

might be able to get you a gusset 14 t ring for about £5 or so

brand new as well

Some single speed conversions and kits can chew away at the soft freehub body of a pro2.

is that the double six?

and would i be able to space this out using cassete spacers? or will i need the actuall gusset spacers.

Pro II freehubs are made of cheese, mine is already a bit mangled - I've had it less than a month.

I used a Surley 18t Cog - they are larger at the bottom, around 3-4mm, this is supposted to stop damage to freehubs, but it's starting to mark mine already.  :-\

Don't know what to suggest really, other than be prepared to replace your freehub quite often! I'm already looking into the price of a Pro II trials replacement.

do hope make aftermarket steel freehub bodies?

the pro 2 freehub is aluminium so is fairly soft, therefore having one ring about 5/6 mm wide with all the pressure can damge the freehub by chewing into the ratchets on the freehub body

to be honest i dont think that one ss kit will be much better than the next at preventing damge, you can get a steel freehub for the pro 2 which is a sensble option in the long run but if thats not an option then keep the lockring tight and the chain at the right tension and that should help a bit

Yes look here (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=25986) which is an easy piece of kit to fit, no tools actually needed.

I use a pro2 9 speed hub on my DJ bike which is singlespeed, I'm running the gusset double six kit and using the actual cogs, I know its not going to last forever but it does a better job than the usual dmr kits which seriousley are not a good idea for the standard alloy freehub from a pro 2.

Spacers: If you just want to buy the cog you can use old cassette spacers by taking a cassette apart. You could also cut down your dmr spacers but you would have to get it perfectly right.

cheers mate, thats exactly what i wanted to hear, i'll probably buy a gusset double six ring and use some cassette/dmr spacers to fit it.

when changing those freehub bodies, i know it is easy to remove the current one by pulling and twisting but i have heard its a pain to fit new ones.

i watched the vid on hopetech but iirc on there they use a special tool.

on one groove armada is the only cog id recommend using on a pro 2 ....

Back on-Not so easy, may need a tap, I took mine to an LBS where they just did it on the spot, no tools.

And 'Trail_Rat ' why is that the only cog you'd reccomend? Its not as wide as the gusset. The gusset double six being a 7mm wide base and the on one armada only being 4mm.

because i know it doesnt mark them.......

never used a gusset ...width doesnt always mean non marking .... poor tollerances make marking worse

o.k. looks like i'll be getting a 15t one of them. do i need to use my own spacers as it doesn't look like they come with any.

just recieved my on-one groove amada 15t ring in the post and (ihavn't fitted it yet but) talk about a decent quality feeling piece of kit.

if it performs to half as good a quality as it feels i'd be stoked.

I swear 247 do a ss kit which is a cassette width piece of tube with the chain ring mounted in the middle, therefore spreading out the pedaling load,

that would be pretty crap tbh as you would have no chainline ajustment
