Title: All mountain/light Dh rims + tires
Post by: Fire_munki on August 20, 2008, 20:24:22 PM
Time to treat myself to some new rims. Not sure what I want and the mavic website isn't the most informative.
Need them to be light as my bike does everything (day rides, DH and anything else inbetween), strong enough for playing down the woods and tubeless ready.
Will also need tyres to go with them, tubeless and gernerally fit for every thing. High roller esque but quicker rolling.
Not too much to ask is it?

budget? dt swiss have a good selection, the fr2350 are crazy strong and light, and the 1750's (if im correct) are even lighter but i cant say whether they would cope with the big stuff.

budget 50 quid max per rim, then tyre on top of that. Aren't the Dt rims supposed to dent really easily?

Bollocks to DT swiss, you'll dent them and then kick yourself.  Hard.

For all round use, XM719 or 819 if you want to go tubeless.

I've been using them for DH racing, and now DH on a hardtail, along with allround abuse.  Love them, and when the time comes I'll buy them again.

got to second the 819 rim here.

had a set on king hubs and they were flawless.

that combined with a set of schwalbe nobby nic 2.25" tyres and your set.

i'm now running crossmax st's (very similar rims) and the same can be said again.

I have 719s and 2.4 conti mountain kings on my all mountain rig, been pounding the rocky descents in the thunderstorms in dalby today and they held up a treat, a light strong and grippy setup! V happy  :)

819 it is then, going on hope xc and bulb. As I can't afford a pair in one month which to buy first for the most noticable feeling? Front or rear? Spoke wise what are good? Would ask my LBS but the wheel builder is swanning around the USA til next weekend which by a happy coincidence is pay day!

Sweet cheers guys. Tyres this pay day. Then save for the rear, then front. Dammit this biking is expensive.
