Title: What Riding Shoes
Post by: jammie654 on August 22, 2008, 21:30:43 PM
Hi Guys just a quick poll on recommendations for riding shoes.

I do mostly DH and have Flats(v12's)

Im probably going to get the 5.10's as they have the super grippy sole and look quite casual and cool but are there "other" shoes that are good for this like skate shoes etc

edit; If you vote "other" please specify

If you don't get 5.10s, get NKE (nike) 6.0's
developed with lead mountainbikers such as andrew shrandro etc etc, super grippy, look good, and comfy as fook.

Helly Hansen jaegers are worth a look.

When i use flat i use the Marzocchi Bomber shoes. Same as 5tens but cheaper and they are great. Even i can keep my feet on and im used to toes pointing down from clips. One thing i have found with them is that ypur foot is stuck where you put it. OK when you are messing about on tracks but annoying in a race run.

Basically what this person said. I ride in 6.0 and there great and very comfy.

I run v12s and im using Vans no skool shoes, havnt yet had any problems with grip.
used to wear a pair of DC pure shoes for riding and had no problems, until they fell apart and got holes from the pedal pins in the sole...

shimano dx- amazing, inside of shoe is raised to cover ankle. feal SO comfortable, shoe laces are covered up and they have amazing fit, no grit or anything ever gets in them. Also they are ultra grippy even without grub screw pins in pedals.
Also you can wear them casualy to.
I've tried 5 10's and never thought much of them so i tried shimano dx's and they're amazing. To underated IMO.
Try some on.

They are so comfy!

There is a couple of them on there but basically they are sold in any shoe shop which is half decent. just try some of the local shops around your area. schuh is a good one for a start. or if not just search around on skate websites. Ive also heard that you can make your own on some website I'm not to sure what the web address is etc, but it would be good to get some custom ones. does anybody on here know the name of the site to create your own?

I bought one of my pairs in a shop yesterday and also ordered 1 pair off of Nike ID,

You can make them completely custom, they take a lil while to arrive though.

Can't praise my 5.10's enough. Super grippy and comfy. I have the hightop's too, and that way they double up as my work boots.  ;)

Seconded! The 6.0's have been great to me for a long time, but not soo great in the wet, get damp and heavy if you are pushing up and it is raining, or is that just me? :P But i am sure that would happen with 5.10's aswell... i think.

I love my 6.0's! Super comfy, and very appealing to the eye! I also have 5.10's, they are great, but i prefer the nikes! Tho, in france, i did have to move over to the 5.10's some days as my nikes moved about a bit, but now they have kinda 'worn' it to the pedal and i think they'd be sweet now. Oh, and i also ride v12's.....
