cowan ds is available as a frame only while the bass is a full bike. as far as i know though, they're the same frame. and i'm pretty sure that they were still for sale at the start of this year. however, chances are they are all sold out by now as kona make very few of them each year, so whether you like it or not, you may well have to wait for the 2009, unless you want 2nd hand.

He's^^ right, there is a 08 Cowan ds frame and a Bass bike, there's small changes to the geometry, 0.3o on the head and seat angles and the bb has dropped 0.9" but seems to be the same frame in full bike form.

It's really hard to find info on Kona's frame only offerings so you may have to wait for the full catalogue or go and find a big Kona dealer than may be in the know to see if there's an 09 Cowan.

do the bass and the ds share the pivot being around the bb shell so theres no need for a tensioner when running single speed?? isn't the main didfference between the two that the bass doesn't do this??

Pretty sure they both do this.

The howler is probably what you're thinking of and that has a pivot just above the bb like most faux bar linkage bikes
