guys, i was looking forward to seeing a load of you at the races, make new friends have a laugh, fly the SDH flag  ::)
but recently, ive been getting nerve pains, after a scan today, i have cancer in my pelvis.
i should be ok, but im gonna be couped up in hospitals all over the uk for a while.

so guys, wish me luck, i can pull through this.

i just got home, im at home til tuesday (although i have to sleep at my local hospital - morphine and all!) then im off to birmingham for a byopsy, then i can come home next saturday for afew weeks whilst its analysed.

once they know what the score is, itll be time for treatment, unfortunately, they cant just cut it out as its on my pelvis (bone cancer) and it crushes my nerves for my legs etc.; cos of this, thery cant risk removing it when its near all my nerves.

so itll be therapy and probable baldness etc.  :P

ill be ok, im in high spirits. apparently its most common in 15 year old boys (thatd be me!) , but it still is quite a rare thing.

When I first read this I didn't know what to say.  All I can do is wish you the best of luck for now and in the future.

No operation, it's VERY close to his nerves so they can't do anything. Keemo (sp?) is the only way, he's gonna lose all his hair lol

Aidan's being brave as hel about it all, he's constantly on a happy, and it takes a lot when you know something bad is up with you. I, for one, know for a fact i'd be crying everyday, but Aidan's battling it out, and laughing at it, hell he's laughing in Cancers face, and good on you bro, your gonna get through thiis with no problems what-so-ever.

I don't know if you've read Lance Armstrong's book "it's not about the bike", but its about his fight with cancer, and so much of it seems to be mental, wanting to get through it, staying positive etc, so if Aidan has an attitude like that then he's sure to get through it ok.
It really is a terrible thing to happen, but i'm sure you'll get through it fine mate, you'll be back on the bike in no time!

i just got back from m ybiopsy.

they had to cut me in two place son my lower back and find it, then take a sample, they said it wasnt too bad but its a big op for a biopsy.
im very very sore.

but ill pull thorugh, its just gonna be a hastle.

Its been a while since we heard from you! How are you doing?

i had my first chemo last week.

i took it really well, wasnt sick, just made me really really tired.
as it happens, my hair started falling out yesterday, so i just shaved it off. doesnt bother me at all really.

i have about 7 months of chemo and hopefully ill be having an operation in 10 weeks to remove the tuma.

everything is going well, the chemo is doing its job already, (i can tense my right calf muscle now, before my nerve for that was trapped by the tuma) which is nice to know.

im positive about it all, its just gonna take a while to get it sorted

Glad to hear you're still being positive about it and that all is going well. definately a good sign if things are beginning to feel better now. maybe in 10 - 12 months we'll all go for a ride to celebrate!!

Fight on dude....i have a friend who had a brain tumour last year and she was positive all the way.  Now shes in great shape, infact stronger than before the tumour and living life to the max!

but its cool, not really a big deal.

im going into hospital on tuesday for 4 or 5 days for my next chemo and i got the stitches taken out of my chest yesterday from where i had my op for my porthacast. (some metal pipes and plastic tubes to inject the chemo)

its all madness!

i figured that the next 7 or 8 months arent gonna be great, im gonna be getting attatcked by chemo, il be sick, ill have pretty big operations and all that. i know that it aint gonna be a walk in the park.

but once these 7 months or so are over, i have the rest of my life to get on with  :) and i know thisll change me in a good way; seeing as im on crutches atm cos my nerves are still being crushed by the tuma, ill appreciate being able to jump on my bike sooo much when im sorted.

but the chemo has started working too, im getting nerve twitches in my calf that was recently dead up untuil now; as soon as my ankle etc decide to work i should be ALOT more mobile.

its all good; just a blip in my life i guess.

well, im off in for some more chemotherapy tomorrow.
should be out of hospital by friday (thursday if im lucky, saturdayish if im not)

im having to take a ton of coursework into hospital too! i have so much its crazy, but atleast itll keep me busy. and the doctors have reduced my steroid intake and how much of soe other crazy frugs im taking.

so all is looking good  :)

im liking the attitude on this.. im guessing that for alot of people they would just get depressed and pessimistic.. good luck with the chemo.. its not fun and get back on the bike asap..   :)

im actually in the 'teenage cancer ward' as we speak, hooked up to some drip pumping liquids and chemo into me. ace eh?

i feel really good, NO side effects have got me this time which is about as rare as it gets which is nice. my mum is on her way to see me now with a pizza as well  :)

i should get out of here on sunday, but only for a day cos i have to come back in on tuesday for another dose of the stuff  :(

the tuma is officially shrinking as more and more movement is coming back into my ankle etc. yay!

hopefully theyre operating in about 7 weeks, theyrd be removeing the tuma and part of my pelvis to get replaced with some shiny titanium  8)

Five / Six years ago, my good mate got diagnosed with lympth node ( spelling? ) cancer, now completely fine after his treatment. Wish you all the best mate and speedy recovery.

oh yeah, and the air conditioners been broken in the hospital for the last 3 days  :(

its absolutely boiling, its sticky uncomfortable bla bla bla
its annoying for my dad, but when youre getting chemod and cancerd and hooked up to drips and medication it just aint fun!

I was watching "bollocks to cancer" and the guy there was able to walk about whilst on some form of IV, i dont know if it was the chemo though, can you not get outside whilst having the treatment if it gets unbearably hot?

im glad some of you watched bollocks to cancer.

its basically what im going through but he doesnt have it quite as bad (and he whinges alot!)

you are allowed outside and all that when youre JUST on hydration (yes, your still on a drip, chemo tends to have a red bag over the drip)

however, when you have to walk miles (or what seems like miles) whilst getting chemotherapied you get tired out very very quicky which is darn annoying.

i did get outside yesterday, but unfortunately all of the fag smokers got there before me and the air was fresher in the hospital than outside of it!  >:(

Sincerely hope all goes to plan. I've just had a few months with broken bones and stuff but this really puts it into perspective. Just remember, the mind is the most powerful tool!

By the way, if your bored ever heard about visualisation. Heard about this US POW in Vietnam who was about to learn golf before he went to war. While he was a prisoner he played golf in his head every day, one round in the morning and one in the afternoon. Same thing every day, he had the course designed in his head, the lot. Got released and went back to US and had a round of golf.

You guessed it, shot par first time, never played golf in his life. Just think by the time your out you could be a Freeride God!!!

unfortunately my scan shows that my tuma hasnt shrunk at all, however this doesnt mean that it isnt dying, but we cant operate with it this big.

theyre looking into adding radiotherapy or different chemicals into my cycle to try and shrink it. bah!

itll be ok though, just abit of a blip in the process of fixing me

going in for 2 weeks chemo tonight.

my blood levels arent quite high enough so i have to have another blood transfusion tonight, then hydratoin gets pumped into me after that, then at about 6am tomorrow my chemo starts.

its all new drugs now as the previous drugs were doin nothing and my tuma unfortunately had grown.

these new drugs are my last chance, if these dont work then theres nothing else they can do.

it worries me, but it should work. me hopes  :-\ itll all be ok



due to a new regime of new chwemicals and drugs for the chemo, my protocol is now set to last until about mid next year now  :( bah!

it will deffo be reet cheif, time for that bhop comp ;) amercian.. not english

Hey man hows the treatment going?

Just been in to see young aidan. The reason hes not been replying on here is that hes been a bit ill......well more ill than usual. The chemo drops his immune system so low that hes very susceptible to illness and disease. So hes had a bit of an off few days. No biggie, hes back to his usual antics of annoying nurses and avoiding his support teacher. Things are getting pretty close to the wire now. The last load of chemo didnt work out too great, which suprised us all. Aidan is now on a final stronger dose of chemo. This is all that can be done medication wise but a lot of the fight is down to aidan and this i know he can take on. We all are behind you and know your going to be ok bro.

Every time i see aidan i get this feeling inside me, its strange. I feel mad, angry, upset. Its not fair and i cant do anything about it. I had a bit of a moment when i left the hospital out of the side door, turned my phone on, went over to my car, sterio came on and that was it, i was back to normal life with missed calls and work to do. Is that fair, why do i get to drive home and aidans stuck in a place he describes as a living graveyard.

Aidan bro i realy wish there was something i can do, we all realy feel for you and there isnt a day goes by when we dont all wish you were out with us. Gapping up stairsets, Avoiding flies at hamsterley or cleaning up my workshop. I bet you miss that last one the most. :)

Next year were going to have such good times man. We will be making you catch up on all the stuff you have missed and i promise i wont make you clean up my apartment anymore either.

hey dude, i havent posted anything on here before as i dont know you, but i know the effect cancer can have on peoples lives and the up's and downs on emotions, though obviously no where near as much as you, but having had a mother and uncle who have had cancer i can understand some of the emotions which go through close relatives and friends as the treatment goes on. theres not really much else to say but good luck and you can beat it-keep your chin up and take each day as it comes

ive been in hospitalfor 3 weeks, but have got home for 1 night; so i can post on here how im doing.
im back in hospital tomorrow for a week and a bit.

chemo is going ok, atm im suffering with alot of pain as dan said. but ill be ok  :-*

i havent posted in this thread for a while aidan because i wasnt sure what to say. Hope you had a good night at home and hope the week in hostiptal isnt too gay. you can do it man. my fingers are crossed and my thumbs and up.

waheeee, got sent home for a day because my blood levels are too low to start chemo.

i finally got my appetite back and all im eating is pizza hut stuffed crust pizza with extra extra cheese and loads and loads of fried chicken.

mmmm mmmm mmmmmmm, thank god i got me appetite back  ^-^

and DC, give me a call next time you fancy visiting the fun fun fun hospital.

I know i don't know you Aidan, but i feel obliged to post something, and i want to... Keep fighting and look forward to the days when you can hop on your bike again, and go and ride some nice trails. Spring will soon be on us again, so look forward to then. Everything will sort itself out. Don't worry and good luck with a speedy recovery.

I hope you are getting better (fraid I haven't read this whole thread for quite some time  :-[ ) but for an inspirational read you should so read Lance Armstrong's book, "It's not about the bike", about his battle with cancer. someone else has probably already mentioned it, but I just finsihed it last night and it was very good. Having read it and now understanding what chemo is and what it does to a person, makes me realise how horrendous it really is. I had never realised before. Good luck and keep up the fight.

Yep. forgot to mention that book. It is a really good read. He had very slim chances and pulled through stronger than ever. A real example of positive think and attitude.

For those of you who arent up to speed with things heres the basics.

Aidan had his first whack of chemo which unfortunatley didnt effect his tumour in the way we had all hoped, infact it grew. Hes now in his second and final treatment of chemo. He has a scan this wednesday which will show us what effect this dose of chemo has had.

Im sure we all want nothing more right now than to hear that hes on the mend and I pray to god that this wednesday gives us all something to be happy about. I strongly believe that in cases like this its very much mind over matter so pleas join me in giving out some positive thoughts to aidan and letting him know were all thinking of him.

cheers for alll the good wishes for wednesday, its reallly on my mind..

ive had afew days at home but go in for chemo tonight again, trhis chemo lasts 2 weeks but ill get disconnected on wed for my scans.

oh and on the 8th i have an op to get rid of my catheter once and for all and get some weird button thing in my lower stomach to let me empty my bladder fully. (my tuma is squashing lots of nerves, one being a nerve for my bladder which means i cant fully empty it, hence needing catheters etc.)
this also means i can wee normally abit too, abit nmore normality is nice

but my mind is just thinking of wednesday atm

stay positive as you have been and you'll be okay  :)

right, i have a small op on tuesday just to get rid of my catheter and get some mad crazt button thing in my lower stomach so i can empty my bladder

got my scan results today
it has stayed the same size as the last scan which was 3 months ago. in that time a tuma would have gotten bigger so the chemo has done something to keep it the same size. so good news, were carrying on with chemo.

not gonna die yet  ;)

i had very bad news afew days ago..

ive been told that im most probably incurable but still have about a 1% chance of pulling through. so they gave me the choice of carrying on with chemotherapy. ive decided to carryo on with it. if theres a chance, ill go for it and hell no im not gonna give up.

its a scary scary time for me, im only 15 and no one deserves this, heres hoping that i pull through and im back riding asap.

s**t bro, I'm so sorry to hear about that. I apologise now if I'm statng the obvious but have you had a second opinion from somewhere else? Have you looked at what treatments are available outside of Britain? My Dr told me that America are currently at the fore front of  cancer research etc, although it would cost it's a small pruce to pay

thats a really bad thing to hear. as jack said, it really does make all our little squabbles look stupid.
no one deserves to hear something like that, especially not when theyre 15.
i really hope you pull though this, youve put up such a fight so far you deserve it.

It's still so hard to beleive with all the medical technology about these days that someone is given a 1% chance to live.. Can't footballers be paid a normal salary so lots of money can go to research or something? Like Chris said, really puts things into perspective.

Just finished treating a guy, a bit older than you with an advanced Sarcoma he has about a 5% survival chance, but was one of the nicest, most positive patients i've treated in a long time, i guess alot like you.

Alot of people think that working in cancer care is always depressing and wonder how i can ever enjoy my job, but its cause we get to work on a daily basis with people like you.

I hope you do well, and always remember to pop back in to see the people who looked after you, its great when a patient who was given a really poor prognosis, walks up and says hello several years later.

Been following this thread on and off but neve posted anything yet as everyone else was expressing it so much better than me but best of luck with your treatment. My mum had breast cancer years ago and had a bad prognosis but pulled through great so it can happen!

1% means theres a chance and that is most definently all you need. Wishing you the best of luck on pulling through mate. you really don't deserve this... so have another crack at kicking cancers ass  :)

its s**t luck someone as young as you gets it, cancer's a hard thing to go through (no personal experiences, bu other family members) and i can bet its bloody horrible

hey.

i go into hospital tomorrow to carr yon with the chemo.
im still recovering form my operation to get a tube thing in my stomach going from my bladder to a button thing on my stomach so i can pee out of it by attatching a tube (the tuma is squuashing a nerve to my bladder so i ant pee properly  :( )
but im just gonna plug on with the chemo and not give up
all the support really really helps, makes you feel better that people (who even dont know me) care.

When not riding I work in financial services and run my own M&A business, working in London and the South East of England. Wherever I go I get emails on my mobile and I've sat in business meetings in the city discussing buying and selling businesses and got an email on my mobile notifying me of your progress. So there you go, you've managed to get into some of the most heavily guarded board rooms in the country

just got home for abit so i have some internet access. yippee

ive just had a big dose of chemo, im okish now, just feeling sick. but its gonna get much much worse and malke me very il in the next few weeks.  >:(

still struggling getting over myrecent smallish (ish) op.
havent been able to walk (on crutches. i cannot walk without them, not a chance) but today i got down the stairs bymyself for the first time (its a biiig house  ;))
but now my legs are really in pain and are suffering cos they havent been used for literaly weeks.

My mums mate had cancer, he went private had some random costly treatment which seemed to do the job, he was given the all clear a few days ago. I'll find out what it was asap and PM you with it.

Hi guys,

Aidan was rushed into hospital by ambulance on monday blue lights blazing. Hes not too hot at the moment and is in intensive care for a few days, drips all over him but thank god hes pulling through.

My heart sank when his mum told me but im jus glad hes ok. God bless you bro.

Aidan is now out of intensive care and is back on his run of the mill teenage cancer ward meaning hes pulled out of lastweeks little setback. I cant begin to explain how relieved i am and im sure you all are too.

Its his 16th birthday on the 18th december and it would be great if any of you would like to send him a card or stripper to projectleeds, po box 37, darlington, dl3 8ww giving him best wishes and much love so i can take them in to him amoungst much cake and dancing girls.

Aidan will hopefully be out on the 23rd December so he can spend some time at home over christmas.

My brother has been diagnosed with some form of leukemia and he's 21.  Good to read your fighting it as best you can, stay positive.

 You think things like this dont happen to younger people , Im 18 and your younger than me . I admire your whole attitude towards this . Having all this chemo and operations must be super scary. i cant even begin to imagine . To be this normal , when everyone and yourself knows that somthing this big is hanging over you is amazing. I admire you and your will for life . Dont ever give up . You WILL pull through this .
