Photoshopping pictures without permission!
« on: December 21, 2006, 00:31:33 AM »

I know you're all only trying to help.. But i've seen this crop up far too much in this section.

If someone posts a picture, please ask their permission to alter and repost it. If you ever did that to one of my photos i wouldn't be best pleased, neither would any other photographer i know..

If you are posting a picture you know isn't really upto scratch, you may put in the topic you don't mind about people photoshopping etc, that's cool. But if nothing is said, please assume they don't want their photos messing with!

Cheers Smiley

Good idea, its especially annoying when people don't give any credit to the original source or photographer and just put their own name or website on it. Angry

It's just s**t, full stop. People should take their own photos if they want to PS them; I'd flat out refuse any request to allow modification of my photos, it's too much bother if the person then goes on to make a mess of it.

Give advice yes, but take it upon yourself to download the photograph, manipulate it, and then upload the photograph, no.

And photographers talk in Queens English. Just like everyone else.

I gotta say Ive never had it happen to me without my knowledge, but I can agree with most that its pretty much copyright infringement and slander, and Ill quite happily beat someone for doing it. It is actually against the law, especially if you change it in a way that makes it seem like you were trying to give a certain type of feel to the image as this implies that the original photographer was also involved and agrees with your ideas. This also applies to any artwork under the copyright boundary, and if someone creates an image or photo they automatically have copyright.

Just to clear it up if anyone didnt know!

I would never class myself as a photographer, but, i write music. If someone did a remix of one of my tunes, i would be flattered that they wanted to do it to some of my work. Photos are surely the same. Someone who wants to 'tweak' your pic is obviously impressed with your work and has just though... what if i where to do this....?

Have you thought of doing a "Photo Shop Forum"? Then those who are good at photoshop could show off their skills. I think you will find very few of these people are trying to pass the original photo as "their own work".

As far as your photo's go, keep up the good work, there is nothing quite like extreme sports action shots and i enjoy seeing your work.

PS hope i haven't p***ed too may people off with my crazy opinions!!

Well to be honest a photoshop forum would be pointless,
the whole photography thing is based on the picture you take not what you do to it after.
Ask someone if you can photshop their photo but theres no need to make a whole forum for it when you can just put it in this 1!
Regarding the music/flattered, thats fair enough but most of the time the photoshop of someones picture is crap.. Tongue
But im just saying.. Grin
