!!!!IDEA!!!!!
« on: December 26, 2006, 22:43:19 PM »

hi there all...let me get this straight, if we are running a race on f,c land then we have to abide by f,c rules...and yet we are surrounded by hill and mountains which most could be owned by private farmers or private land owners....if we host races on our own private land then we dont have to abide by the f,c rules, thus uplifts can go ahead in a road worthy vehicle can they not?Huh??if anyone can give me any more info then let me know of any rules and regulations......i wouldnt hesitate in asking local famers and land owners if i could use there land to build a track...after all if they aint using it and they can earn money from it then what have they got to lose.....let me know all the info you can and i will get onto some people....cheers all

As per in this country insurance is the bain of most privately owned tracks. If you want people to ride there you will need to start a club and charge membership to cover the cost of the (mandatory) third party insurance.

After all this is done, unless you can really bring in the punters, the excercise is pointless.

Also not all that many famers own hills! And private landowners probably wont want to know.

Sounds negative dont it.

it does indeed sound negative but the thing that is getting to me is, if my bro in scotland can open a paintball site which uses stuff that could blind, maim, damage and quite possibly kill then surely we could get enough backing to start opening up our own mtb area's. aston hill has been running for a fair few years from what i have heard. think of it like a skate park, you ride at your own risk.if all goes ahead with the area i am after then i would charge people for car parking, if you aint got a car then its cheaper still.i can also get an uplift service. and the place i want is unused land and big enough to have a massive (and i mean football pitch size) set of dirt jumps, a full size dual slalom/4x track and possibly a few dh runs.....i need to start generating interest in this and the more positive post's i get back then the better as it gives me better ammunition when going forward to the sports development commitee.insurance for a year would work out to be about 2-3000 pounds which is not bad really.....mini whistler here we come.

Aston hill is Forestry.  The issue is with uplifts, which doesnt affect Aston as they dont do uplifts.

The midlands use a few private courses like Caersws etc, which is what the nps are using too.

South Wales hills are typically forestry land, especially where the courses are.  Taff is an exception.  We need to find an uplift solution so we can keep these venues going...

I'd be interested in something like you mentioned tho,
