Camera experts please
« on: January 09, 2007, 20:57:12 PM »

Hi, I'm getting a new camera and i want a nice slim compact one. I know most of you are more into your SLR's but any help ould be much appreciated. I'm planning on using it for everything; you know the score, take out with me, holiday, riding shots would be nice etc etc. My budget is around £200 tops!

I am quite fond of this one http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/393639/art/sony/cyber-shot-dsc-t10-black.html

I have looked at the reveiws and spec and it seems to be quite good but before i dish out £200 it would be nice to ask some other people. You think it would be reasonable for what i want?

Thanks!!!

my sister had a similar sony to the one you're interested in, overcomplicated, couldn't take a single sharp picture and didn't have a view finder! ,

that samsung looks quite nice, but look at the canon ixus range too, not sure how much they are, but super reliable and take fine photos

Panasonic Lumix - they use Leica lenses and they are absolutely AMAZING for what is basically a snappy camera. They work in some really confusing lighting situations as well. Well worth looking at, but they normally sell at about the £250 mark. Might get one myself!

The fuji E900 camera is pretty immense takes sweet photos and dont know of any bad reviews either - its got 4x optical zoom which is slightly better than the one you were looking at - if that matters to you!! and it also takes pitures which could compete with my SLR - and it can be run with manual aperature an dshutter speed if you ever particurlarly wanted too -its also only 132 gbp on amazon  http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000B66HG4/3000031-21/ref=nosim
hope that helped!!!

That fuji is an amazing deal for the money! It shoots RAW, has shutter and aperture priority like Rat s**t said, and when you reall know how to use it it has manual mode too. That has the same functions as most DSLR's and a larger resolution than a Canon 350 or a Nikon D50. For that price spend the rest of the money on a nice 4gb memory card for it and fire away while still getting change from your £200. Infact Im even tempted, and I have a 5D for gods sake Tongue

you might want to look at the canon powershot series if you're after a slimline camera, i wouldnt bother looking at the panasonic lumix, its basically the same size as a DSLR, its a bridge camera, the next best thing to DSLR. Not what you want as put across in your first post. in my opinion the powershots are better than the IXUS's but thats all down to personal preference.

I, however use a Nikon D80 :p

I recommend Fuji, the Panasonic Lumix or pentax. I have a little pentax optio s60 and am pleasantly surprised at how nice it can be.
