NPS RD2, what was good/bad
« on: May 31, 2007, 12:50:48 PM »

GOOD,

The Track, not very challenging overall but still good.

The stepdown, the drop into the finish + the offcamber section.

The weather (some of the time)

The uplifts

The atmosphere.

The trophies

Nick Platt winning seeding

Harry Molloy doing well

The Fenwicks bike wash

My shock after being TF tuned

Gee pedaling across the wooden section near the finish

BAD,

The weather (some of the time)

James Dower breaking his arm

Seeing Nathan Rennie cruising down covered in mud after crashing in his run

Camping field too small

No service on mobile.

So, prob one of the best run races we've seen in the UK.

Any one else want to add what they thought was good/bad?

Good -
There was always paper in the toilets.
The course.
Having Ae Line to go and play on.

Bad -
Wendy Chambers' race time didn't get posted on the results board, and Monet Adams' was buried under other sheets 'til I dug out out.  A hark back to the old days and my constant nag... Women are just as much racers as men (and pay the same)...
There was no veggie spot on the grill on the pie wagon, so no egg rolls for bob  Angry
"Kids in America" on the PA - Jason Brennan must be shot!
Midges.

Good

All the things Kdub said,

The paper in the loos... the loos full stop, weren't bad at all actually

The high profile riders in attendance, like a mini WC.

The track was fun.

Bad

The big cut in the front of my leg

Peoples race times not coming up on the screen... so far it hasn't happened to me, but I'd not be too happy if it did.

Girls seeding results not being stapled up on the results board.

Girls being run fastest first in the final - bang goes the whole hotseat tension thingy.. winner's already down pretty much.

All the photographers who I saw but whose photos I can't find!! haha

Got to say I completely disagree with you there Em.
It might not be the case with the Elite birds but in the Non Elite women you get a pretty wide spread of ability.  What used to happen was that we went off slowest first, and then by half way down the course there was a queue of riders trying to pass, and by the end the whole cat. was crossing the line together and not necessarily happily!
Vets is another category where this is a problem and I believe that it's best that the cats are run fastest first in these cases.
OK the tension goes, but bluntly it's better that everyone gets a clean run.  That's worth more to me than a few seconds in the hotseat.

The big cut in the front of my leg

Wimp!

Good:
Transport was superb.
Practice starting early.
Nice flowing track, completely different to round 1.
A large number of very fast riders.
Dans one hander into the finish.

Bad:
The uphill before the finish - not really bad, just could have been better!

Mikrotime timing.  The SDA were approached to do the scottish rounds but for whatever reason were not able/willing to cover it.  Just to point out here that I do not know the reason why the SDA system was not used other than that it was the preferred option of SPS.  Mikrotime were instead drafter in for the first two rounds with timing that is reaosnable if not outstanding.  I have no hesitation in believing that the hard results are 100% accurate but that times are omitted from the live board, and that the times vary from the board to the paper, that causes concern and in effect negates the value of the live board.  if the SDA can create a live timing board that does not appear to haev any major issues such as this then how come Mikrotime, who have been doing this many years, have not changed in the last 5 years since they were last covering NPS DH races and where the same problems still occurred.  The problem for SPS events is that there would be little other option.  Still, we get back to pearce timing for the final 3 rounds.

Aside from that, I felt that the event went pretty well.  The weather kept everybody on their toes and the transport was killer.  Can\\\'t really complain as so much of it was good, more make suggestions to improve the final 10% that really will put it to the top of the list.

We were not the cheapest quote as we included a team of 5 to run the timing...

Microtime only have two people plus Sammy and Sue who come cheap so the overall cost is less.
Just out of interest why do the SDA require 5?

Ah, thats cool.  Just wasn't sure of the exact reason although I knew that you had been approached.

For what it's worth, I would say that the SDA system is by far and away the better of the two setups.

Ems and all the Girls - Will make more efffort to get your seeding times up for round 3, apologies if I didn't get them up. Embarrassed

The SDA did quote for rounds 1 & 2, but because of the cost of the uplift at Inners we could not go with the SDA (£10,000 on uplift a round 1)

The live timing board of Mikrotime is a couple of seconds behind, due to cables and magnets that power the board, if you don't see the screen as you go through then checkout Paton's monitor they are all there. I know he makes you ears bleed with that constant crap he put's out, but he doesn't bite to hard, only your ankles Grin

Sorry mate, if you have issues reading a clock or listening to the beeps let me know at the top of the hill and i'll tell you when you've got 15 seconds! Or if you need 'ready, steady, go'  it can be arranged.

Aside from that the guy starting you normally does say 10 secs or something but with 300ish riders can you blame him if he misses a few?
