Touch-up paint...
« on: July 29, 2007, 20:09:07 PM »

OK, just bought a newish frame that needs a bit of cosmetic TLC.. do any of the bike companies (I'm thinking big ones, like Specialized) make small quantities of paint available like car manufacturers do?

If not, is there such a thing as a colour 'code' which they could give me in order that I could get some made up?

If you ask whoever make the frame for a colour code .It will most likely be something like a RAL colour code - which is easy to get mixed by a paint supplier.
If the frame is just black you can use a permanent marker just to make small scratches that go down to the metal invisible  Smiley

There's a good chance the paint used is a one-off made for the bike company, but there may be something very simular within the car industry.

If you go to a auto paint supplier or bodyshop, they normally have swatches (bits of card with the paint colours on). They put the swatches up against the car to get an idea of which paint to use, as each paint has up 4 slightly different shades incase the paint on the car has faded.

They could do this with your bike, and if your lucky, may find a colour which is the same, or very simular. The swatch will have the paint code on the back, which you use to buy the paint.

Go to Boot, nail polish comes is a huge range of colours. Take your frame in to match (I did with my Boxxer lowers and got strange looks, but a perfect match!).

The BB7 is just a big, slack, steamroller. It's a DH bike and doesn't pretend to be anything else.
