« on: August 01, 2007, 17:11:24 PM »

Im now nearly recovered well sorta,

and went for a little stroll on my cruiser
to the bmx track (iford, bournemouth)

tried to jump there last straight
(something ive done hundreds of times before)
and face planted somehow

worst part of all this was,

i was wearing a full face helmet (661 dh)
which now looks like this

full injuries were

Lost two front teeth
Cut open tounge
cut open chin, needing 8 stitches
bruised knee and calf
and graises on both arms
and brusied collar bones

That's typical fare for crashing in a 661 full comp, or any other full face with a suffocatingly close chinguard, or inidentitizack's case, a 661 full bravo that didn't fit right. (a correct fit would have prevented the face-scrapeage and tooth loss)

I did a similar thing with a Giro madmax2 that didn't fit right. Face first into a tree. Broke my nose, cheekbones, eye orbits, popped blood vessels in my eyes.

Learned my lesson, got a decent lid.

D rings, long visors and a proper fit on your next helmet methinks [Wink]

Helmet was fitted by my lbs so not a problem with the size, just a s**t helmet tbh

Next ones going to be a Troy lee or a MX one

a troy lee is a very expensive 661, offers no extra protection whatsoever.

i learnt that the hard way, MX lids are the way to go (your head dosnt lol about in them), the old fox rampage is good NOT the new mtb specific one, look for the motorcycle club sticker on the back and before anybody starts harping on about how heavy they are its about 200 grams more and im sure in this guys case he would have been happy with 100g to keep each tooth

661's are all sh** i've never seen 661's perform how they 'should' i think basically a decent fitting helmet with large visor and chin section is the way forward, I've stopped my whole body with my head twice now, and both helmets work excelllent, were useless after but still saved me. they were the giro remedy and a troy lee D2, that pic did look very much like a helmet taht didnt fit correctly, just becasue your lbs said it was right, doesnt actually mean it was right, it doesnt take much to start a bike shop. anyone can do it with enough money.

Personally i spend more and try before i buy!

Nothing is infallible: I lost a tooth with a full face on before- I had already bailed and was rolling at speed and happened upon a log- The log caught the chinguard from below and my momentum ripped the helmet up and my tooth out; looks like this accident may have been similar- if ou hit the chinguard from below, the helmet will lift, which is probably better than breaking your neck.
