New to Dragon Downhill - advice please
« on: August 08, 2007, 09:47:22 AM »

Hi Guys - only recently (3 months ago) converted to DH from XC and really caught the bug in Morzine in July. I have entered the Mynydd Ddu race well at least I have completed the form and sent the cheque. Do you get confirmation of your entry or anything like that as I can't see my name on the entry list?
Also i have a question on spares - I will be taking things like tubes, chain links, mech hanger, pads but would any of you seasoned riders recommend anything else or will there be enough trade stands there to supply stuff?
Another thing I am really nervous of making a tit of myself so what is the atmosphere like as I have ridden in Cwmcarn, Mt Ash and some of the people I have encountered seem less than friendly to newbies - does the event cater for the less advanced, recreational rider?
Any directions for Mynydd ddu?
Cheers
Chris

jason (runs dragon downhill) is away so entry list wont be updated for a bit. sounds like youve got most spares covered so no worries there. atmosphere is ok, people are usually friendly but remember it is a race and people are less inclined to hang around chatting. if you are worried you really need to get on an uplift day - theres one at mynydd du before the race. uplift days are a lot more chilled and anexcellent way to learn the course and practise without any pressure (or whistles).
go to www.dragondownhill.co.uk for all directions, info etc

The atmosphere at Dragons is really great. No one is really bothered about winning, It's really one of those thing where it's taking part that counts. There really fun weekends!

Spares wise, I think you've got most things covered. Descent-World is at most of the races, They provide most parts.

Out of interest what bike will you be riding? It's hard to comment on spares for a specific bike. for all I know you maybe entering on a bmx?!

I will be on a 2007 Stinky (purple) with Fox 40's up front - you will probably see me lying on the track at some point after coming off - but that  is all part of the fun - if you don't come off your not trying hard enough!! ( well that's what I tell myself!)
Thanks for that see you there?
