« on: August 16, 2007, 13:38:13 PM »

What is the best way to remove headset cups as mine are just stuck in. I want to remove them as they are from an unsealed headset.

Why waste £26? all you have to do is get an old piece of pipe and cut four lines down it like that tool, move them out like that with  a pair of pliers and bobs ur uncle Smiley

The tool is not quite as simple as that, have you actually ever used one?

That'll be £15 well spent. Rocket tools come in very useful, especially if you're swapping round frames a lot. The cups from my old frame got knocked out by my local bike shop for free though, as it's only a 2 minute job with the right tools at hand...

put a thick cloth or gaffa tape round the end of a pipe or long handled socket and hitt the hammer out. easy as 123. the tape or cloth stops the frame inside getting damaged

doesnt work if the head tube in thinner so the headset fits in and thicker in the middle. Wink best off buying a rocket tool

UMMMM £15 spent on a simple tool that gets the job done correctly or wrecking a frame, costing £££ by using a bodge method ?  Roll Eyes

I have always seen sense in buying quality kit that you might maybe use once - maybe twice again, but when you do life will be so much easier.... Wink

Cable cutters are a fine example - quite how I managed before I bought a pair I dont know, but now:

I would definitely advise the rocket tool because ive flared my headset i think, by removing the headset with a mallet and old steerer tube  Undecided  :'(
