You should be able to ease the uncomfort by doing muscular excercises, I don't know 'bone' one's as it will be the pain from it growing, but stretching muscles around this area will certainly help.

Try lying on your back, keeping both shoulders touching the floor and slowly bring up one of your knees, and cross this carefully over your body and try and get your knee onto the floor.  I.e. right hand knee over to left hand side of body, while keeping both shoulders flat on the floor.  5mins of back excercises a day should make things easier...

Where abouts is this phantom bone growing from?

I've got a physio set for increasing back mobility, was a double a4 bit of paper with loads of excercises and stretches on.

Got it ages ago when i used to get really bad back ache when standing for long periods.

the one i found most effective was if you get on the floor on your hands and knees, then sit back with your bum on your heels and try to get your chest completely on the floor and push out along the floor with your arms.
Then in 1 fluid motion slide your chest along the floor bending your arms up beside you, and then arch your back upwards straightening your arms.
(like youve just layed on the floor and put your arms staight bending your back towards the floor, with your hips and legs flat on the floor)
You can then do it backwards, sliding back into a kneeling position with your chest on the floor.

Repeat this about 15-20 times in each set. Normally start with 2sets and see how it feels and increase as necessary.
