z150's, bit knackered methinks.
« on: October 20, 2007, 12:39:45 PM »

Few problems I've got with my 04 z150's (fr) which I've had since I got them (2nd hand a few months ago):

Rebound adjust: basically it's jammed. Took the dust cap off, apparently you should be able to move it with your fingers? It won't budge, don't particularly want to take pliers to it. Stuck in it's current setting it's stupidly slow, and really pretty horrible to ride with.

Travel: not sure on this one (may just be me being a n00b), but i measure the stanchions, they're 150mm, but I can't compress them further than barely half way up, like 90mm.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Smiley

Have they been serviced since you bought them? the oil can emulsify after a while which may mean you wont get full travel.

Do you still have the screw for the dust cap? All you do is screw the screw into the threaded valve untill its pretty tight (dont worry about it adjusting in the wrong way), and voilla you have rebound adjustment via the allen key.

Travel issue: Maybe let some air out of the valve (under dust cap on the other side)? I remember my old z150's used to take in a lot of air and make them super still and barely use any travel.

Wasn't into paying like £70 to get them serviced when I had a pair myself.

Hope this helps

I'm afraid I managed to shear the bolt in the valve (timmeh!), good thought though.

I'll let some air out today, see how it reacts.

Thanks very much  Smiley

Well maybe try using some pliars to turn the adjuster? It always seemed to stiffen up, but with a couple turns it would turn loosely and smooth again.

Or you could go for a service, but I really dont think its worth the price.

Hokay, I'll try the pliers tomorrow.
Didn't let any air out today, bit scared of doing it in they get even worse cause I don't actually have a shock pump  Tongue

Cheers for all the help  Smiley

are they eta? if so it is possible that leg is fooked. the eta can stop them compressing as the little rubber seal inside that leg the hydro locks it often gets chewed up. we just striped it and cooked it with a lighter and it comopresses fine but you lose the eta. or buy a new eta leg.

You may need to strip them and the reboud adjuster can move onthe rebound rod underneath and make it jam. Very easy to take apart and you need 7.5wt oil to put it back together. they forka re pretty hardy and you can normally get them runnign for very little cash.

Cheers

Cheers, a diy service before I sell them is looking likely as it *looks* like I'm replacing them with 66's today.
