What hub??
« on: October 29, 2007, 19:03:21 PM »

Hi im planning on getting a complete rear wheel to go onto my coyote dh3.
I know that i would rather a mavic ex721 to match the front, but i dont know what hub would be best for a bit of dh as i am just getting into dh.
I dont want it to be overly priced so i'm on a budget of about £140ish.
May be a 2nd hand wheel may do the job.
What's your thinking?

Thanks  Wink

The one thing that Hope do pretty perfectly is hubs. If your getting brand new then Pro2s, if second hand then bulbs are just as strong, if a little heavier.

Pro 2's are crap.  If its are DH3 am I correct in assuming it has horizontal drop outs?  If so get a bolt and nut jobby, something like a Hone hub or better yet, a Saint hub.

And are the hone or saint hubs any good?
It does have the horizontal drop outs
Will it make much difference with the horizental drop outs? As i am using a halo sas with the usual qr and it works fine. Take it's about strength?Huh

They're brilliant, I used to use a hone hub a while ago cheap and cheerful the Saint hubs are supposed to be awesome.  Bolt through will help add a bit more strength and rigidity to the rear end.

There are a lot of better hubs out there than Pro II's. They just happen to be reasonable quality, reasonably cheap and common.

If you hold out for something second hand & get lucky, you will get something better.

Pro 3 is non disc if I remember rightly, designed as an XC/road hub.
