Shoulder surgery
« on: November 06, 2007, 17:11:13 PM »

Just got back from hospital after having surgery on Monday on my shoulder, this due to a crash in the snow in January.

Oh my god how painful?

They gave me what's called a "blocker" which paralyses your whole arm, well weird, dead mans arm...mmmm Wink  They also took the opportunity to give me an epidural in my spine to try and help my back/disc problems out too....thought they were just for pregnant women Embarrassed

Can't do jack for some time now, and this one finger typing is a ball ache.

Oh well at least I have my health Undecided.....sorry, wrong one.......I mean I should be grateful as there are people much worse off Roll Eyes

Hope that you start to heal up pretty quickly mate. Had surgery on my shoulder a year past august, and the pain was pretty bad for the first week or so., Didn't get back on the bike until march. It was a crappy 7 months, but was even more fired up to ride again when i got the all clear. Hope all goes well dude Smiley

Dito…
I had shoulder surgery end of August,
Dislocated it in France summer 06 and then it took till February 07 for Doctors/Specialist to get me in for an op.
Decided to have the op after going to France summer 07, booked myself in as soon as I got back (NHS)
I was out of server pain in about a week after a lot of work done on rotator cuff muscle. The soft doughnut style seat was stitched back in place and the ligaments holding your shoulder in tightened (self tapping screw used)
Physio was a joke; they weren’t prepared to do much so I did the same exercises I’d been shown for the original dislocation. You just have to remember to listen to your body (Pain) and allow 4 weeks post op for immobilisation and healing.

I’m now 9 weeks down the line and fully fixed with a nice tight shoulder, just need to work on the strength side of things.
In short I was told 12 weeks e.g.
4 weeks recovery no movement
4 weeks flexibility no lifting
4 weeks strength build, by that the mean been able to lift your arm unaided

As is now I think I’m in front of the curve, by the way I’m 37 and no spring chicken when it comes to rehabilitation

I'm 37 too.....but recovering well at the moment, I'm at a great physio Nicky Snazel and recovering is not too bad, can lift my arm above my head but it bloody hurts, hope to be able to do a gentle ride in a couple of weeks but who knows, recovery is reported to be very slow.

Sounds like yours was much worst than mine so hope you get well soon, shoulder injuries suck....a lot.

Amen to that!  Im in for surgery on christmas eve.  Hopefully it's just a fairly simple op to take plate off my collarbone, so not as major as you guys, but still, it's not cool!
