Haha Tom, there must be an easier way than that, I was thinking of a harness or something. Tongue

Theres our first version, seems ages ago now.
Check out the impressive riding by me in the blue top on the Raleigh .  Grin

Our second version was a failure, well my part wasn't, it was the motorised drive system that failed.

I've been tasked with making version 3 over the winter, so just thinking how best to do it.

In terms of have a mounted camera rather than a person on the rope, you have the following options:
Digital camera or camcorder.
Self contained helmet cam.
Helmet cam and media recorder.
Camera with wireless transmitter, and receiver and recorder on the ground.

Also you run the risk of whatever you use getting damaged or broken, DVD and HDD camcorders being particular sensitive and not suitable due to the vibration that will probably be produced.

In theory, using a helmetcam would seem the best option. Its lightweight, and with a recording device is still small enough to zip along a cable.

I've been trying to adapt an RC monster trucks innards to hold and drive along a cable with a helmetcam slung underneath. At least this means you can control the speed it runs at, though this isn't any use if the rider overtakes it.

You could try a more industrial RC setup with proper motors and a steel cable/winch to drag a cameraman in a sling harness along. I've looked into this, but haven't really bothered because none of my friends ride, so no point in building one.
