hi,
looking for a good dslr like a Nikon d50 etc but just wondered if you guys could suggest a decent one. i have about 300 quid to spend so any suggestions?

At the price your looking at a D40/D40X. Both are excellent. I have the D40X, which is identical to the D40 just with more pixels, and I love it. Everything is easy to use, the sensor is excellent, and Nikkor lenses seem pretty good.

That said I am hardly a pro, I just like taking pictures.

D40 is best bet new.

Check second hand for a D70 (i saw one mint condition in CEX for £350 the other day) or for a Canon 400d/350d.

I wouldn't go for a D70 these days (well, maybe the s). Not that it isn't a good camera, it's getting a bit long in the tooth, and technology has moved on quite a bit from when it came out - the same goes for the 300D to be honest.
