Go on the DVD drive and copy the VIDEO_TS folder onto your hard disc somewhere.
You should be able to get your DVD player software to play it from there.

I use Ulead Videostudio, you need at least v10 or higher to support the AC3 codec mine and to support  widescreen when used. You can import the whole lot or just single 'titles' from the VIDEO_TS folder, when it imports it converts it into a MPEG2 (.mpeg) file and stores it in a temporary file. I'd imagine any other commercial software would do a similar thing.

If you don't want to pay for software you can use Virtual Dub MPEG2 to open the .vob files, you may need an AC3 audio codec to decode the audio, you should then be able to crop and save it into an AVI file and edit in something else (like Moviemaker).

One problem might you run into with the DVD format is it looking stretched height wise after processing, this is due to non-square ratios, the real size of the video is 768x576, or 1024x576 in widescreen.

Let me know if you want more help with this stuff.
