To be honest, as everyone has said, you will have a hard job learning on a SX. I have been able to 180 hop hardtails for ages but can only just get a big full sus round with a lot of effort. Not the most ideal starting point.

Cheers guys, gonna give em another go tomorrow, will see how I get on.

I suspect what will eventually happen is I'll get frustrated and have a "f*** it!" moment and really throw myself into it and either do it or get close. Tis the way I learn most stuff.

May be sorted with a bmx soon, will certianly make this a whole lot easier lol

I learnt these on my full sus ancillotti, so not too different from your Sx, and after a few attempts i managed to do a few on 'my' trek session 10 (okay, only for a week, but yeah Grin).

Basically 90 degrees is the easy bit, once i get that far from twisting my body, i then try and whip the bike round the rest of the way, works well actually. So the first part is with your body, then your legs.
 Hope that helps..

After riding a bmx for a while, trying them on big bikes is a nightmare. Tried one on my mates cove sanchez the other day and couldnt do it( mainly cos the tyres were under inflated)

So my advice would be: Pump your tyres up to at least 40 psi, it will make it much easier.

If I try 180s off a small wall/lege/curb (about 20cm tall), I can get the rotation (normally), but my front wheel always hangs up on the ledge. I can roll back out of it, but obviously its not right...

Any ideas?

Go a bit faster so once you have hopped you travel further out away from the ledge. Will probably feel scarier at first but jsut go for it.
