i know that firewire is standard, thats what i use, but i was asking if pcs also use firewire, as there isnt a port on this pc and the one my parents use doesnt have a firewire either....
so, what i meant was, is it possible to transfer video using usb2?? im guessing it is just much slower.
as for software, yes editing software, but if pcs come with something im sure he has it already!
No, you can't transfer video with USB, you need a firewire port on your PC. Movie Maker is the standard software suplied with most PCs and is more than adequate for basic editing needs. Not true, you can transfer video from video cameras via USB (I used to) but it is really bad quality compared  alex

DMR transition ... rides sweet for my size and works really well for me, paint is f***ed but rides nicely! DMR's are still rubbish though!
