I've just had a meeting with an HM Revenue and Customs VAT expert and he has informed me that I have to charge VAT at 17.5% on all entry fees. So from immediate effect all entry fees are rising by 17.5%. I don't get the extra money, it goes to HMRC Revenue and Customs so please don't complain to me. I can only claim back a tiny portion of this as most race expenses are VAT exempt, like Buses, Medics and Marshals

Bummer Thats a pain in the arse. Oh well, just gonna have to deal with it.

£65 seems a little steep for a weekends racing don't you think? - students and the younger riders are going to be really up against it especially as this new raise (by nearly a fifth )is going to filter down to practice days as well ?
The Cearsws and Pearce cycles don't seem to be so much IIRC ??
"I can only claim back a tiny portion of this" - so overall there is a net gain for the organizer, as even though a small proportion it may be they can still claim back part of the 17.5% fee increase meaning more income at the end of the tax year.
Why not lower prices to reflect the amount you can claim back to minimise the impact on the customer? - just a thought and no I am no tax expert but do have a HND in Accounting & Finance(a long time ago mind!!)

have to say i agree. had intended to do 5 rounds this year. thought 57 was a bit steep. but 67 is a joke.

2 races would pretty much cover ferry and fuel to les gets.

think ill go look elsewhwere if this VAT lark sticks.

5 practice runs on a sat and maybe 4 runs including race runs on a sunday

this does suck quite a bit, cant really afford it but if thats what we have to pay then thats what it is :/
