When there are enough marshals to allow it I've seen this done at the Dragons.

see I've never really understood why this is so hard to do.

surely you only actually need one more marshall.

ie.

start of the day they all get sent out to their positions.  after 2 hours say.  a new marshall is sent to the uplift.  the marhall at the uplift gets on the uplift and relieves the guy at the top, he/she then walks down the track to replace the marshall there, who walks down to replace the next marshall.  Until the marshall at the finish walks up to the guy at the uplift and the whole thing rotates again.

not that hard is it? or am I missing something.

No marshall points are ever unattended, and no one gets stuck anywhere dull or exposed for a whole day.

Indeed Col, but its often the case that there are to few marshals sadly.

I can't see myself marshalling any time soon as I can afford to race and would rather race, however I'd be MUCh more inclined TO marshall if there was a rotation like Col suggests.

Marshallin at Cwmcarn the marshall rotation was on both days and worked very well thanks to alex and the other guys up there that weekend. I wouldnt complain about the pay for marshalls. If you break it down its about £2.50 an hour.
I dont see why there is about 7 pages of people saying why they wont race anymore. Im pretty sure theres enough riders willing to pay so that the Dragons carries on going.

-C- and I are both marshalling at Gethin on the practice day for a free race on the Sunday, I figure it'll allow us to watch riders and learn which lines are best and get to know the track a bit, plus give us a free race seeing as we're so skint this month (more like quarter actually). I don't mind doing some voluntary 'helping out' but I'd still want to be able to race, I don't know how possible that is?
