THE BEST CAMERAS FOR NEWCOMERS
« on: May 06, 2008, 20:41:23 PM »

RIGHT
This thread seems to appear every day, so, heres the dealio!

Digital SLR's

Canon 400D -

CLICK ME

Nikon D40 -

CLICK ME

Olympus E410 -

CLICK ME

Sony A200 -
CLICK ME

COMPACT CAMERAS

Canon Ixus 970IS -

CLICK ME

Olympus X840 -

CLICK ME

Nikon Coolpix S210 -

CLICK ME

There should be enough there for you to look at, and if theres not enough there, use the search button as this has come up a billion and one times.

My advice with the SLRs is go for either the nikon or the canon, but try before you buy, they work very differently and some people get on with one brand, but not the other.

As for the compacts, i'd go for the Nikon coolpix personally.

Can this be stickied, so that this doesn't have to be posted every other day?

I wouldn't bother with the D40x, its not worth it over the D40 and a D50 is still better if one can be found.

The D50 is a better camera than the D40 or D40x, and is worth getting over them both, as it has a better sensor.

And that's exactly what rider has posted... they're all aimed at people coming from compacts.

He's right aswell Tongue

The d50 is the predessor (sp?) to the d40, and also aimed at the compact upgrader, so to speak.

Simple way to figure it out... Any camera available in silver, as well as traditional SLR black, is usually a beginner-level camera.

Fuji S series are an excellent starter if you dont want to go for an SLR, but want an SLR style camera with full manual settings, apperture and shutter priority and all the rest.

Most come with a 18-55mm lens as standard, apart from the sony which comes with an 18-70mm. These should do you fine to start with, as you take more and more shots you'll be able to decide if you need a bigger or smaller lens.  Smiley
