The Go Big, or Go Style Debate
« on: May 11, 2008, 11:31:24 AM »

This is one of the banes of bike riding,
Is it better to go Big, I.E Josh Bender, Or to go Super Stylish, I.E Adam Hauck or Lacondeguys etc.?

Alot would just say Style, straight away, but going big has its Upsides,
i mean, within MTB, seeing somebody do a tweaked table off an inch high kicker is thoroughly impressive, but to the outside world, they think very differently.

Personally, i would say that as ive got older and progressed with my riding, im thinking more about style, and where i can, incorporating big and style. When i was younger, id send it off bigggg dirt jumps, and held on.

Now, i go back to the smaller jumps, and perfect them, with whips and body pumps, just making it looks good.
I then see how low, and then how high i can go off a particular jump. It all gets very fun, i recommend it.

I would say, going big is very fun once in a while though...

So, what does everyone think?

My honest opinion is that the Bender thing is a bit boring. When you've seen him clear one 100 foot wanger, you've seen him do them all really. It's just *bang* *whooooooooooosh* *KADONKKK* time after time.

Standing at the side of a track and seeing some low-slung 4X bike come broadsiding past whilst the rider turns it down and gives it some pasty like Jimmy Saville, well, much more interesting, much more variation and nobody gets killed..

I'm showing my age. Sorry.

so doing a drop is the only way to 'go big', hardly, with a drop its just a single hit, with say.. racing its a whole bunch of things in a full on run, thats always impressed me more

style, well everybody has their own good or bad but after seeing a video of a mtb dj comp once again the racing wins as far as iam concerned

Who gives a fook?  Variety is the spice of life.  I respect any rider who can do their own style well.

Lacondeguys are not stylish, nor are any of those "slopestylorzz", real style is something like this;

Just somethis subtle, not stupid. Something that anybody can do, but is extremely hard to get dialled, like a whip or a table etc.

Thats just my opinion.

naah style is more like being smooth over stuff, and making stuf look easy, with really dialled moves, aka gracia or peaty

That has to be one of the most untrue statements I have ever read - I mean, what the hell are you basing that on?
