Right. Decided the D40 didn't offer me as much as i'd expected. (wanted 10MP+)

So i have a choice.

I can go for the D60, D80 or a Cannon EOS-450.

Out of the 3 i prefer the D60, but will it be good enough for take action shots of bikes with, or should i to go the D80 which offer me more but possibly too much. Price is not important as i'm getting it for my 18th so my parents want to get me something i can keep and use over and over again. Can anyone tell me what they're like in the long run, easy to use when out, hard wearing ect..

Only thing that crossed my mind when having a go with them was the weight of the D80 which put me off slightly. The D60 and EOS felt much lighter, and less bulky which is better for transport i guess.

Also, i will need a bag to put it in when riding that will fit in a medium sized backpack (Oakley one..), can anyone recommend me one? And are Gorilla pods worth it, or would a little tripod be better.

have you got any reason for wanting 10+MP?
consider the idea that mega pixels dont actually matter unless your looking to create huge picture to put on your wall or something similar.

I cant really rate the Canon, but then again i wouldn't go for Canon so i am sure someone else can give you the lowdown on that.

basically any of the cameras you have written about will be be able to take a decent bike shot, you just need to learn how to use them..
what you need to think about is what you want from your camera? what will you be doing with the end results? are you into photography? do you want have your 18th birthday present to be just a camera or a cheaper end slr and something else.

The D80 far surpasses the D40 and D60, the bulk honestly i wouldn't worry about. One of the reasons i went for the D40 was its compact size.
However i grew to really dislike it. whacked on a battery grip which adds weight and bulk and havnt taken it off since. Makes the camera feel so much nicer in your hands.

as for carrying your gear, I use this bag:
http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/default.aspx?sku=10155
amazing piece of kit. I hold 2 SLR bodies and about 7-8 lenses in it plus cleaning gear filters and a flash.
then youve got space in the front for more stuff, jumper etc. and a tripod holder on the outside.
plus straps to stop it from flying around when riding.
very padded, will keep your gear safe from most stuff really.

I used to have a d40x and found it amazing till i found i outgrew it so to speak.

I then moved to a Canon 40d (which can be had for a very similar price to the 450d due to cash back) which is a much better camera, and outperforms all of the camera's you've mentioned.

If you want to know anymore about the 40d give me a msg Smiley

I ditched my 400d (old version of the Canon 450d) for a new 40d, mostly becuase I wanted something with a better FPS (shots in a second) and bigger and easier to hold (the 400/450d as with the D40 are smaller than the average SLR so don't fit in your hand too well). If you want to see some shots check out my flickr (in the sig) but the main difference will be with your lenses. It's worth paying less for a body and getting a really good lens, the 18-55mm that is standard on the Canon isn't great, the 17-85 on the 40d is much better but even a decent prime like the 50mm f/1.4 will be great. Remember that your Nikon lenses won't fit on a Canon.

In terms of Nikon/Canon equivalents, the D60 is like the 450d and the 40d is like the D200/300, but with cashback until June on Canon kit the 450d is about the same as a 40d and well worth the extra bit over the 450d.

Any Qs just ask, but to be honest, your best bet is to try them at a shop (you may prefer the way one works, where the buttons are etc.) and to learn how to take good riding shots as all the cameras mentioned can do this.

I wouldn't say so, they might be pitched against each other on the market, but imo, the 450d is a massively better camera than the d60.

The d60 isn't really any different to the d40x apart from the dust removal and something else which escapes me.

Whereas the 450d has many upgrades over the 400d, all making quite a big difference too.

I dunno, like i say though, I'd rather go for a 40d, I really can't get enough of mine, awesome little thing.
