im sorry and i dont want to cause an argument but thats bloody stupid in the wet.... especially as i no dirty bomb has no chicken/wire mesh on it, so that was in most cases obviously going to happen! i hope hes ok though.
flippin heck any one who rides up there knows not to do the stepup step down in the wet its just plain stupid like riding an ice rink but fair play for given it a go
The only other bad crash I have heard of on dirty bomb was when a local kid tried to ride dirt bomb with a binding back disc brake, he had plenty of speed coming into it, pedalled well then freewheeled up the take off, the brake was rubbing so much he lost all his spead and hooked up on the top of the platform he then went over the bars and supermanned it off the top of the platform, narrowly missing 2 trees. A broken arm and a bruised ego. ( BTW I wasnt responsable for his bikes mechanics!!!)

Hmmmm, that explains the mysteriously broken slat!
We told Andy and (forgotten his name, long black hair) that the slat was broken.
It wasn't raining when he did his speed check, and it started as he pushed back up to hit it. He rode in as it was hailing, just a bit unlucky really.
Yeah he was fine if not a little bruised. Did not expect him to get up when i saw him front flip out of it. Tim and i are the two who run to him when he stacked it.
Christ that's scary, my mate and me were riding that two weekends ago in the wet... wondered how that slat got broken. I won't be doing that again (unless they mesh or sand paint the slats). We were bloody lucky.....
I do hope that he's OK - but please ride with care - which includes be extra careful on wet north shore (also remember that if the conditions are wet and your tyres are muddied up you'll still at danger on bone dry north shore).
You must be totally bonkers to ride any north shore that big in the wet - we see lots of broken 'hero's' at the park often with no armour explaining how butch they where hurting themselves. We would rather have a bit of sensible discresston rather than bulging accident books.....
Dirty bomb was only built 1 year ago with strong 4 x 2 tantalized slats and thick posts all screwed together with premium stainless screws/bolts. It looks like it broke because he slid into the edge of the platform and dug in with his whole body weight onto the edge of the slats. Chicken wire and sand paint really don't do much, and offer up all sorts of maintenance problems down the line - even the Forestry Commission only use bare wood and just keep it clean.
