yeah i've met and ridden with Doddy a bunch of times at Esher Shore and on various MBUK articles and comps, and he's a decent bloke, got a nice riding style too....
the review are bias companys give them free stuff if they put in the mag that its ace like the 40's winning the fork review because htey gave doddy some. I get mint sauce it aint hard
Ive been a subscriber of mbuk for a few years now and yes, the mag has its ups and downs but it is good for people just getting into the sport. Some of the things are a bit silly but other than that, thier reviews are acurate and fair, can hardly say they are biased to either side or company.
Having read magazines like dirt etc, i can say they do vary quite alot. Dirt is more focused on downhill and the race scene where as MBUK is more of everything, reviews, information about events etc. I guess its just catering for the varying lifestlye of mountain biking tbh.
The 20th aniversary one was good, did like the Zaskar and some of the comps/prizes were good considering the questions asked. All youve really got to say is, theyve been going for 20 years now and i dont think they are going to stop.
yeah exactly i thought it was great say 3 years ago but now am starting to not findit as interesting or thrillseeking as the sport can actually be (if that makes sense)
but its not hard to understand the stuff they write, however there appears to be quite an obvious mistake at some point in each issue, and yes no magazine is perfect but some of the errors really were of school boy standard

And that is based on fact is it???
I heard they were up to those sorts of antics from people in the business about 5 years ago. Maybe there is something in it after all

'heard' and 'people in the business' ... proves my point really...
I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but this is all down to rumour than any actual fact. Unless an ex MBUK employee has blown the lid and submitted evidence of them doing so I'll treat any rumour with a pinch of salt.
OK so team MBUK uses Fox forks and they get a good mark in a group test, but at the end of the day they are rated by many others too.

I don't think there is any bias with advertising / testing within MBUK. I know they have f*cked certain companies off in the past with honest reviews, and most companies will not send MBUK or What MTB any dodgy kit as it will get found out and slagged off...
its actually a corporate policy of Future Publishing (who own MBUK)
having been on bike tests for MBUK and seen the test notes (that the editorial test team give to the photo stunt dummies / photographer) it all seems above board
they don't always get their scores right, mistakes are made with pricing / information and sometimes the summary contradicts the main text on each item (i.e. a fork in a fork test - they might say the fork is "stiff" but in the main text say "the 32mm legs aren't the stiffest" )
I do know that they get their sh*t dirty and its actually used...Dirt are not testing bikes at the moment and so its really just a rehash of advertising bumpf / spin which is sent in by the company punting the bike or component, its rarely that you see a pic of a rider using anything shown in "fresh produce"?
I have seen this with Ride (BMX mag) also owned by same people behind Dirt - they don't actually "test" the parts they feature, its just a photo and some blurb..."this is the new S&M LAF and its a great frame"

its all about "being single, seeing double and jumping triples"
i thaught it was pretty cool, nothing really interesting to read tho unlike the haldon review they did witch i was MAJORLY unimpressed by, as they riped the C**P out of it saying the berms were made with a mountain bike completely absent from mind or some Boll**ks, it really annoyed me. i liked the crunchie granola bar they gave away tho best iv ever eaten, god I LOVE FREE STUFF!!!!!
I liked the 20places you must ride in the world, Dalby Forest & Grizdale were up there with Moah Utah & Whistler!! seriously wtf, surely Morroco, Queensland & many others are just slightly better destinations! Utter rubbish magazine this issue was no different
