Glencoe DH track?
« on: May 24, 2008, 13:07:49 PM »

I while ago I read somewhere that glencoe was openening a lift serviced DH track and glencoe is also listed as a venue for SDA races but I can't find any information on it. Does anyone know if a track exists, if its lift serviced and if its any good as it could make for a good long lift serviced weekend with Fort William.

Thanks

Yes it does exist.
Its about 30 miles south of Fort William on the A82.

The lift is closed for a few weeks for repairs after the ski season.
And the track is apparently being worked on during this time, although if you've never been I guess that makes little difference to you!

They're online at www.glencoemountain.com

Is that the "bike park" out aviemore way that was going around ages ago.... I think that was Glenshee....?

If that is what you mean then no its just a myth, there was an "official" press release saying it was all going ahead etc. but this was a fabrication and nothing to do with the ski centre....
They then released an actual official statement saying this was untrue and they had no intentions of/ were unable to go ahead with building a bike park

Glen coe has a track and they are doing much needed work as the last sda race was a mud bath and it was just stupid tryng to ride.

And glenshee isn't aviemore but the glenshee thing is apparently truth AFAIK. well according to some people who joint run the place.

Had a look at Glenshee, has a cracking hill for a shortish Downhill, but alas it is only served by a T/Bar.

The big hill would need 10's of thousands spent, just like Nevis.

Lecht is on the crown of a hill, so not very steep, but possible....

The road through the Lecht and down to Braemar and on to Glenshee is one of the most stunning roads you will ever encounter, if you have a big bike, it's a must!
