Looks like youve sharpened the rider on the first one, but overdone it horrifically.

and the colours are very off in the second shot Undecided



As I said above I was using a program far too sophisticated and I needed to brighten them up as there was very poor light.

I also rushed the 2nd putting a very rough filter over it. There was a tool called Hue colour map, would that adjust the colours?

perhaps looking at tutorials would help?
Try using curves and the exposure setting on Photoshop. These will give you a starting point.
Leave the sharpening out, perhaps you tried using it on too high a setting.
Contrast and hue will help with colours, yes, however use brightness too. Most of the tools on Photoshop work in harmony with another, you just have to find out which.
