I agree it's a ballache with a horrizontal scroll

UKMB simply set a max image size, so that larger images have a width or height the forced upon so your browser resizes the image. There are one or two bugs (or used to be) in doing that which is why traditionally we have not done it, plus it can be annoying as there is no easy way to see the image fullsize (you don't even get told its been squashed). There is though a much better way to sort large images IMHO. I'm waiting for some feedback from the mod squad ATM and if it passes muster it'll go into the new template... which I must get around to launching...

On another forum I'm on, the images are automatically resized and made into thumbnails of the original image. That way it's not too big and the original size can also be viewed.

Also, another similar point would be links, eBay for example, these are shortened so as to avoid the horizontal scroll.

Yep, I read it before I posted. From what I understood it said that you would resize the images, nothing about thumbnails. So I thought I would suggest it.

i was indeed using a big screen -my TV... just set my computer up to run through it... Geeky i know

I think it's a vast improvement probably could be better to have them slightly larger for people with larger screens, or maybe have a rollover that has it twice the size of the thumbnail, i.e. a viewable size but not ridiculously large! Not sure how easy it would be to put in with the current coding though!
