what's the point? Nobody's on dial up any more
It doesn't save any bandwidth at all actually. Heck, it adds data transfer! If you read the thread 3 down from where you started a new one, and into which I have merged your thread so indeed it is the thread to which I am posting (wow, I just confused myself!), you will find some discussion on the matter.

For me, it just takes away the point in having it. If you have a ridiculously big picture, it resizes it to a size so small you can't see it, so you can never actually see the picture at a decent size. Either having the resized picture maybe twice as big, or having an option as to the size of the thumbnail would be great (can that even be done?).

Is there any way to turn it off for specific boards? E.g. the photo gallery one?

We cant' download and resize every linked image - that would be silly.

As for turning it off, ATM thats not possible, but I have an item on my to-do list to look at making it user selectable - which is why it is not turned on on the default forum template.

I'm sure there is another mod available for smf which just forces the image to fit within the template regardless of browser/resolution? I swear i used it on a clients forum last year.
I'll have a look for it if you are interested, it may prove more popular than the thumbnails...

Yeah, there is a fixed resize built right in, but it gives no easy way of seeing the full-size.

if the image fits the width of the forum with no scroll bar do you really want to see the full size image? surly a resize to fit the width  of the window would be best. clicky every image to see it get tedious on a laptop sometimes Roll Eyes

Hello, have read the thread and it seems your sorting it out Al, dunno if this is helpful or not but how about users able to select what size width they want the images to be, like in their profile or something along those lines, like have a default size of whatever it is now 500px? And users can make it bigger or smaller if on a mobile device etc.

Errr possibly, "making it user selectable" to me means being able to turn it off and on not being able to customise the size (I could be wrong mind). But yes sorry if I've already stated what's been said!
