Sunn Singletracks for Dirt jumping ?
« on: June 03, 2008, 16:20:49 PM »

Right, am new to the world of dirt jumping and currently building up my first hardtail.
Am getting 24" wheels and was just wondering if singletracks would be suitable for dirt jumping..
Never owned a pair so dont really know what theyre like.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Angus.

i think it depends which singletrack you buy becuase you can get welded ones now whereas the dv's are pinned, but the pinned singletrack will be a similar price to the dv

but the stronger the rim is the heavier it will be  Undecided the single tracks are strong and light when built up with the right stuff by the right person

this thread is splurting more crap than a toliet.
There is not a direct correlation with weight and stength. 721s for example are a very very strong set of wheels yet also light, well lightish. Compare this with say a halo combat which is alot heavier but also weaker you start to see what im getting at. Most of the strength from a wheel comes from the build. Dvs are very heavy and not all together that strong even when properly built...
Get the singletracks for 24 and 721s for 26s

The set im looking at arent exactly a brilliant build.
Just on some deore hubs.  Undecided

Would they be fine for a first time dirt jumper though /?

he doesn't mean the spec of the build he means the actually building of the wheel, y'know joining the hubs to the rims with spokes, wiki it, if you're still not sure

that said, it is completely down to the wheel builder and their skill or lack of it, all the wheels i've bought off crc have been perfect, really well built and have lasted, if you're buying a wheelset second hand, then look to get them tensioned professionally to get the best out of them

With a decent build, they're strong. I had a 24" one on the back of my bighit, on a deore hub, and it was solid. Hung up fuckloads of times on things are it was almost completely true to the day i sold it.

i had a 721 with a deore hub built buy the local bike shop, very good build and stood up to everything without a problem, deore hubs are underestimated by people thinkng it coulnt stand up to much, ive known people who ride dh,dj and trials due to hoe solid the build was.
