Ive just been speaking to the current owner of these wheels and they were originally built by wadescycles, who apparently did a pretty shoddy job of it, so his brother (who is a bikeshop mechanic) rebuilt them as good as you can get. (apparently hes very good at it).

So after hearing that and reading what the majority of you have said (fine if theyre built well) i think theyll be fine.

All agreed?  Tongue

Singletracks will be fine for a little bit of DJ if they are built by a descent wheel builder.  Ive been running Singletracks built onto Pro11's on my Yeti DJ for the last 6 months, and despite a hard life they are still perfectly true and have not dinged at all.

I have used them for DH, 4X and DJ and they have been spot on, also they are a light set of wheels.  I managed to over clear the triple at Chicksands and pretty much flat landed, I crushed the bearings in my Burgtec pedals but the rims held up fine.

If you have them built on a Deore, you will have a solid budget wheel.  Just ensure the wheel is built by a reputable wheel builder.

i use singletracks on my slopestyle bike which gets some serious abuse, and have not had any problems with the rims (I built the wheels)

I used to use Singletracks in 26" (front) and 24" (rear) on my Big Hit and send 25 foot vertical drops, huge step-down gaps and all the dirt jumps at Woburn sands regularly without any issues....

if the wheels are built well, and checked / maintained regularly then you should not have any issues with Singletrack or similar lighter rims like Mavic EX 721s  (the old 521)

a heavier, stiffer rim can actually build into a weaker wheel because it won't allow the wheel to flex under loading and can pop spokes, rip out eyelets or end up bending

what you generally get with a heavier rim is more resistance to denting as the rim sidewalls are thicker, but denting is not really an issue for DJ riders, more for DH riders who hit rocks and roots at high speed whilst running lower tire pressures for grip

its all about the quality of the wheel build, and how much you keep an eye on your wheels

the DMR D-V (made by Alex) is not a bad rim, but its VERY heavy for what it is, and not particularly tough in terms of denting resistance

As long as they are built well they will be fine, I'm a bike ponce so have never actually had some but a fair few people swear by them.

Can get a pair built on pro 2s on CRC for about 200 quid and i can guarantee they will be pretty damn strong.

I would that say if you want a rim for jumping jumps then the singletrack would be a suitable wheel
On the other hand if you want to be hucking tricks and to practice spinning 3's it may be worth finding something more heavy duty

I ran one on the front for about half a year, its still fine and true but then i never did anything that would trouble it.
