Broken radius at the elbow
« on: June 09, 2008, 14:18:21 PM »

Hey guys, had a pretty nasty fall at the beach yesterday. Broke my elbow at the head of the radius. Doctor says 4-6 weeks to heal. I go to the alps in 33 days, you think ill be healed in time? Its pushing it but im hoping its not as bad as it sounds.

Also, any advice on how i can heal quicker? (doctor was a little bit useless!)

Thanks, Jim

I broke my radius at the wrist, so may not be much use to you.
But after 6 weeks it was pretty much back to normal. It's going to be the loss of muscle and the stiffness of your joint that will affect you.

Take it easy and listen to your doctor though.

if breaking the head of the radius is the same as chipping off the top of the bone that sticks out a bit on the inside of the elbow, then i've done the same thing, and i've been in a cast for 4 weeks now and will be till 5-6 weeks, so it doesn't look good mate  Undecided, and then after the 5-6weeks in a cast you have physio, cos its your elbow, and hasn't been moving for a while at this point, so you can't exactly go blasting down a hill the day after your cast come off

Yer the hospital estimates are always when the bone is back together and you can move it slightly without pain.

For example recently they said my collarbone would take 6 weeks to heal, so i thought this meant i could ride after 6-7ish weeks. But when i had the check up later they said 4-6 weeks before any contact sports  Roll Eyes

Best luck anyway.

Thanks for the info guys.

No cast for me, just a crappy sling at the moment. Getting it checked out a week today to see how its healing. Its not a big break and the bone hasnt really seperated, so im hoping thats a good thing.

Ill just keep chugging the milk for a while =]. Ill let you know how its feeling.

Had a check up today. Waited for an hour and a half just to be told to come back in a couple of weeks. Was given a comfy blue uber sling. Its pretty boss Grin

Arms feeling realy good, got about 70% movement back, can use it quite normally. Elbows not feeling stiff at all. If anything its my shoulder thats feeling a bit stiff from not moving much.

26 days till france and at the moment im quite confident it will be good enough to ride on.
