Why do all the threads end up with a fight?
« on: June 08, 2008, 12:59:19 PM »

[Rant]
for the past few weeks it would seem, that every thread, bar a few, end up with a bitch fight.

Why on earth do people find this necessary?

- If you don't agree with someone, then give your opinion in a sensible, adult manner.
- If someone tries to start a forum-fight simply don't respond to them.

its just so very boring having to skip page after page of unrelated fights on SDH, im all for debating, this is good, but please only do so in a sensible, adult manner, don't just put people down because they disagree.

[/Rant]

i think its childish personally. there seems to be alot of talking down to people too and ends up with the usual response of "i'm older than you so i know better so shut up"

Yeah there do sem to be several people who think they have age old wisdom on everything and are incredibly strongly opinionated some even at the age of just 24.
We just need good reasoned arguments that are interesting to read. A lot of people seem to go immediately off topic and miss the point of the thread, what it really looking to find out or is asking. Still I do find theres normally something worth reading although not neccessarily in the chill zone.

there is a lot of talking down to people because they post rubbish, rubbish which us moderators have seen maybe 20 or 30 times previously! this forum has rules, it takes people time and effort to provide the service FREE to thousands of people. we don't appreciate it when people abuse that time and effort. it's really frustrating when people seem to base their knowledge on hearsay and the tabloids rather than using some common sense and google!

People think theyre so much 'arder when theyre on their computer.
Think they know like twice as much as usual.
Round-abouts think theyre better than most other people.

So this ends up in everyone thinking they can outdo everyone else.
+ a bunch of n00bs and you gotta a few fights on your hands.

Well to be honest i think this has all come about since a certain "other" forum shut down,up until then all was good, you had the occasional argey bargey but nothing on the scale its on now.I could go on but i wont as i will only get slated by a "ex-member".Although i was one too but i saw the light beforethe big bang.

Dan has a very good point.

........As has the author of this thread.

The level of maturity of the discussions on here has definitely lowered since the demise of the mbuk forum.

The mods/admins have done a good job in getting rid of the ones that kept posting crap. Annoyingly for them (mods/admins) and the rest of the users that are maturer on here there isn't a lot you can do to raise the maturity of the average written response or user.

I agree, discussion with sided opinions is a good thing and what makes for an interesting read/forum. But what seems to be happening now is the discussions are turning heated and involve bickering far far easier than they should do.

People are taking what others are writing out of context and there are a lot of users who cannot seem to respect a difference of opinion.

I wish i could finish this post with some magic solution that would allow the mods to stop this but it really isn't that simple.

If kids disagree with each other (or adults that act like kids) then it's gonna happen and it's far from easy to stop.

The only thing I could suggest would be to recruit more moderation staff and give a set of new guideline rules to help combat it. What those rules would be aren't something I can come up with on the spot but I have a fair few suggestions that could help.

It's a very valid rant though and I have to admit I've stopped replying to many a thread that  I would normally have contributed to as the responses already posted on them were full of bickering.

The Ironic thing is that some of these threads that have turned into bickering have been some of the most original topics and what could have been worthwhile discussions to have come up on here in quite a while.

What you have to remember that for every one of the annoying responses theres dozens that the mods have had to delete and stay on top of.
Fair play to them but they are fighting a losing battle sometimes since has been said the "other" forum closed.

My 50 pence.

people have different opinions on things....

and they might put it on here but someone might pick this up as being an unploite reply and see it as bitchy   which it probably wasnt in the first place, but you cant exactly put across different tones and sarcasm through words and people just generally take things the wrong way

part from that people are just bitchy and of course they know best....

It's only a forum, just ignor the bellends, who think that they get status points in the "realworld" from this forum.

Chances are most people on here, won't meet each other, so they get aggressive over the net, because they know they won't have face the consiquences, but on motorbike and car forums etc, there's a very large chance you'll meet the person you've just slagged off, so no-one are pricks on there.

But if "hardnuts" on here bother you just don't read the s**t they post Smiley
